Just an illusion, baby.
++ Things have been going good for me so far, a vast improvement from the last two weeks. I have a good feeling about this semester, and I am like two semesters away from graduating so, yay!

++ It appears that the vampire craze has gotten much deeper as The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith has been picked to become a television series on the CW. Okay, now I did read the first book, "The Awakening", years ago and I remember actually liking it, and I'm sure if I picked it up again and reread it I'd find it much cheesier than I'd recall it being...but probably way better than Twilight, that's for sure. I'd give it a chance and see how they adapt it, of course I had my own vision while reading the first book and who knows what changes they'll make and how different it'll be because it was written/published in like the early nineties.

++ More with the vampire talk, um, I'm actually gonna be trying out True Blood. I've heard interesting things about it, and I've been kinda vaguely intrigued, so yeah.

++ I have theories for SPN and BSG I want to get done, but I think I should do a meta-post for Dollhouse, as prompted by seeing a lot of people's comments regarding the show in general. I'm not going to get into it right now, but I have a feeling the show may be too deep and involved for most to understand beyond face value. Then again, it's only been one episode, but still. More on that later once I get around to it.

yay so glad things are good darling!
let me know what you think of true blood, I lost interest myself but I will be curious to hear your thoughts

HELL YEAH! The show or the book? I didn't read the book after I saw the show, cause I was like 'DUDE...WHAT?! No frickin WAY!' LOL

Sorry to butt in, but yeah, I don't remember knowing if you liked this or not, so I had to comment :)
Renée: Summer Glau. Laugh.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 05:26 am (UTC)
Will do. :) I'm actually very curious about how it all starts out, because I've had classmates who've been obsessed with the show and after seeing a few clips on YT and reading what it's about my curiosity has spiked up.

I'm also thinking about picking up the book too for comparison.

yeah I felt liked I should like it but I just didnt D:
let me know if the book is better?
calidreamin08: dean + guncalidreamin08 on February 19th, 2009 12:46 am (UTC)
hey, you know blue blood is a really good vampire book that you should read if you haven't already. it has a different vampire lore than anything that's out there.
Renéerogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 05:24 am (UTC)
From this I'm going to test the waters with the book, because I don't want there to be a repeat of the Twilight nonsense and I've heard from a great deal of people who say that True Blood is what Twilight wishes it were, which makes me hopeful.
OhBooth: Clark Glassesohbooth on February 19th, 2009 04:01 am (UTC)
YAY for goodness :)

Hmm, ANOTHER vamp show? Didn't that other one they just put out last year or so tank? Um....Moonlight maybe? I think that Joss was kinda the be all and end all for vamp TV shows, they shouldn't try to replicate any more :P

Oh ugh, I tried to watch that show, for like one episode, and I couldn't EVEN make it thorough ONE. The premise is completely ludacris to me, I just couldn't stop my head from going 'Nope, totally NOT possible....just no' the entire time, so I flipped it off. My BFF however, LOVES it.

Hmm, you know you may be right about the deep and involved thing. I kinda wanted to fast forward through it. I was like 'Come on, come one, next assignment please...'
Renée: Six. It's good to be a Cylon.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 05:19 am (UTC)
Yeah they did, though I don't think Moonlight was based on a book series was it? Sometimes it can be hard to sell something without its predecessor at times. Though judging from people's reactions The Vampire Diaries were very well-known back in the day, but yeah ITA with your statement about Buffy the Vampire Slayer being the only major success vampire show on television.

To me, the premise of True Blood is kind of interesting because it's in our world where the supernatural is kind of accepted, well perhaps not accepted exactly but known to the general public. It may seem a bit far-fetched and out there, but I've seen clips from YT and I've already been kinda intrigued based on what people have been saying about it, so I figured why not give it a shot?

I'm actually contemplating whether I should pick up the book first before watching some episodes, or do that afterwards to compare.

Yeah, I think many viewers were looking for all the answers then and there in Dollhouse, like the GIRL KICKING BUTT! WHAM! ACTION! SUSPENSE! kind of vibes that is normally there is a Joss show, especially centering around a female character. And I think many were either bored or offended by the fact that Echo is being "used" and isn't doing anything to defend herself from these people controlling her entire life, stealing her identity away. I'm like, um, that's the whole point? Dollhouse is very different, and Joss even stated that this is darker and has more philosophical feel to it than anything he's done, and it WILL take time and patience and people have to watch and assess the episodes and look deeper into it. So perhaps the show is too smart for viewers on Friday nights. *shrugs*
OhBooth: Kripke Godohbooth on February 19th, 2009 06:05 am (UTC)
Yeah, that's the whole 'WTF?!' that I am talking about, like Vampires living among people, and them being all, knowledgable about it, and like a beer company that manufacturs fake blood to drink? Ugh, I just can't get it to gel with my logic. Good luck, I couldn't even last one episode (doesn't help that I can't stand Anna Paquin and her 'accent' was horrendous, then again, I guess she was supposed to sound like a backwoods redneck hick, so maybe it wasn't...) either way, good luck with it :)

Well true, that is why I stuck it out and watched the whole thing. We obvioucly have to stick around to find out WHY she went into the 'Dollhouse', I mean, there was the flash or whatever, but they didn't go into details. Anyway, I mean, it is Joss, so I am in :)
Renée: Six. Seeing what others do not.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 06:32 am (UTC)
I'm finding that whole part about vampires living amongst humans interesting, because most times in paranormal-like shows we have the supernatural being hidden in secret. But vampires are treated like citizens but as an oppressed race, and Anna Paquin's character, Sookie, understands being singled out because of her telepathic ability. It makes me wonder if something huge happened in, say, Supernatural if post-Apocalyptic times if most supernatural creatures came to be known to the general public. How would people react? How would hunters go about their business? Would there be something in it for them if they were a non-threat to society?

IDK, but it's a unique way of taking the mythology and expanding it in that sense. I'll just have to see as I get into the series for myself. :)

I think people need to realize that it's the pilot, and not everything is going to be revealed or get as exciting all at once. This is going to be a slow build up to the greater and grander mysteries, and that requires patience from the viewer. Besides, I like a good mystery that goes deeper into the human psyche, and I think keeping that in mind will help people understand it better. Just give it a chance, ppl!
OhBooth: Kristin Blood Rantohbooth on February 19th, 2009 06:43 am (UTC)
Yeah, see that's the problem. Like with Fringe a lot of people lost interest when the found out that there weren't gonna be a lot of fast and hard answers right away. It is a slow revealing process. Most people today are into the instant gratification. It is kinda discouraging, the lack of patience and interest that people have now. I mean, the whole country seems to suffer from ADD or something.

And I mean, I would NEVER claim to have patience as one of my virtues, but man, I mean, if you don't want to watch it, just stop watching, don't endlessly bitch about it!

Sorry, used the wrong icon :)

Not meaning to cut in but I agree with you about Fringe. If anything I love the slow reveal and how it's developing over the season. Plus Walter is awesome :D

Well hell, butt in all you want if you are gonna agree with me :P Hee :)

Just kidding, but yeah, I agree! I LOVE Walter, he is so hilarious, dosing caterpillars and asking for cotton candy and such in the middle of life threatening cases!

Hey sweetie!

I'm so happy to hear that things have been going pretty well for you lately. Yay for RL going positive. :D

I have no idea how you feel about Dollhouse but I literally just finished watching it. I really liked it and now I'm kinda bummed that apparently all of my flist really wasn't feeling it. Ah well. Either way, I look forward to your analysis. And, of course, your SPN thoughts as well. :)
Renée: Castiel. To have faith.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 05:08 am (UTC)
Hey there bb! :D

Heh, yeah. It's just odd because either people aren't feeling the show because it's unlike any other Joss piece of work, which is understandable, however there are those that are calling it "sexist" which I'm like ???? Srsly? People are thinking that, a Joss Whedon show? I don't even know. I've already read some people's analysis of the show, both positive and negative, so I'll add mine to the list as well.
M: TB Lafayette - gonna make me grab my peaspankulert on February 19th, 2009 08:20 am (UTC)
Glad to hear things are going your way :)

I watched True Blood, due to it being an HBO series, and Alan Ball was behind it. Didn't quite live up to my expectations, but still an entertaining watch all in all. It might have to do with me living the minor characters a lot more than the main ones :p
(oh, and I thought the second episode of the series was crappy, but don't let that dissuade you. It gets much better.)

I won't be reading your BSG and DH posts atm, as I'm cut off from seeing them for a while. I'm glad you're liking DH though :D
Renée: Gaius Baltar. Toaster pimp.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 08:26 am (UTC)
It's my way or the highway, bb. ;)

I've heard a wide range of reactions to True Blood, so I'm just going to test it out for myself and see what I like as a whole. Also, YAY FOR LAFAYETTE ICON! :D :D If anything, Lafayette was one of the things that pulled me to wanting to watch the series, after seeing some clips on YouTube and whatnot. *g*

Dollhouse has loads of promise and potential, and even if the pilot seemed kinda iffy to some I enjoyed it and I'll continue to watch, no doubt about that.
M: BSG Gaius my penis will save us allspankulert on February 19th, 2009 08:41 am (UTC)
hehe Lafayette is my very favorite character. Have you seen the 'tip your waitress' clip? XD

I trust Joss enough to give him quite a few episodes to get into his groove. Firefly didn't grab me by the lapels at once either, but now I've already seen the show twice, and working on a third go around with my friends *g*
Renée: BSG. FOR THE LULZ.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 09:19 am (UTC)
I have! "Who ordered the hamburger...with AIDs?" XD OMG, I love Lafayette, so many funny scenes and guaranteed to be entertaining.

Yeah, me too. I mean, it's only the first episode, and generally pilots aren't like the rest of the series so, I'm sure with a few more episodes there will be more revelations. Even Joss and Eliza said that it's slow at first, but it picks up ratherly quickly a few eps in so, yeah, I trust them. :)
rawthorne on February 19th, 2009 08:31 am (UTC)
You'll like True Blood. I'm pretty sure you will. It has a lot of the same features as SPN: definitely the more gory side of vampire shows. But also more sex.
Renée: Six. Luxuriating.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 11:20 pm (UTC)
I have a feeling I will, too. Everyone's warning me about the gratuitous sex. XD I'm like duh? It's an HBO show, with vampires and gore.
Maryfresleyforever on February 19th, 2009 01:53 pm (UTC)
With regards to Dollhouse(looking forward to your meta BTW)it is only the first episode and I think most people were expecting lots of action. I'm intrigued by the premise of the show and I'm going to stick with it. I like me some mystery :D

My mum thinks Tahmoh is hot-perhaps I can get her into BSG?
Renéerogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 11:16 pm (UTC)
That's my thought too, since almost everyone associates Joss Whedon with kickass action and explosions and suspense. Well, Dollhouse certainly made them pause and rethink that, which on one hand is great because thought-provoking anything is good. But on the other hand, there's the criticisms of lacking in comedic lines and the heroine saving the day, and all that stuff. This is going much deeper and more realistic, in an intriguing fashion, and creative and I'm just hoping most people will get over their initial "shock" about this not being your typical Joss show and continue watching.

Perhaps....though BSG has more to offer than just the hot guys I know, shocker right? But getting her started might help. I can never turn down the opportunity to introduce someone new to BSG! ;D
nesdy on February 19th, 2009 09:40 pm (UTC)
I liked True Blood. It's the same old story, but yeah, it's a good show. It has lots and lots of gratuitous sex, though. I should warn you: most people (myself included) found the first episode HORRIBLE, but it gets better if you keep watching.

Renée: BSG. I am the Final Cylon.rogueslayer452 on February 19th, 2009 11:11 pm (UTC)
Heh, I can handle gratuitous sex scenes, and as I've mentioned to others the first episodes of anything don't reflect how the actual series is going to be overall, most of the time. Besides I've already seen scattered clips from it online anyway, so I know what to expect.
