Some Dollhouse feels.
I honestly wish that Sierra/Priya Tsetsang was the main focus on Dollhouse.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Echo and I adore Eliza, but looking back on everything I sometimes feel like there wasn't enough there. I felt that there was more of a story with Priya that would have been more powerful than the one with Caroline. Hers was more sad and tragic, that there was something more disturbing, more perverse with the way she got herself mixed up the organization that was unlike any of the other participants, since she never consented, she was literally forced, trafficked in a horrifying manner. Had the show centered around her story, we would have seen a young woman slowly become self-aware, realizing her true identity and how she came to be there, and overcoming certain obstacles and horrors and defeating those demons (the survivor regaining control of her life again), and there being an option and opportunity for escaping and finding ways of stopping Rossum for good. It would have added more of the creepiness and commentary of perversion the show was originally supposed to have from the beginning, and it would have captured more (positive) attention had it been done in that way. Showing a survivor fighting back against her abusers, regaining that control and putting a stop to everything, also showing her finding friendships and even love in the process.

While I loved Dollhouse for what it was, I do think there could have been improvements in certain areas. This is one of them that, the more I think about it, the more I realize it was a missed opportunity. Again I love Echo, but let's be honest, many people found themselves more attached to the other characters like Sierra and Victor rather than with the actual main character.

Not to mention that Dichen Lachman is a phenomenal actress. She alone could have carried the show by herself and I wouldn't have minded. She and Enver Gjokaj were amazing together on screen, and I wished we could have seen more. ♥

I totally agree! If only we could go back and remake old TV shows our way ...

I know. I mean, I love the show and the concept and the entire story and message behind it, it's just that I think the main stories should have been switched. With Priya, her story kind of coincided with the entire purpose of the Dollhouse (perversion, consent issues, etc) and I felt it would have added more of a empowering message of having her become self-aware and fight back, y'know? *sigh* It just makes me sad thinking about it. We could have had it all, Show.

that would have been so interesting to see. Her story was really horrible and sad and yet really would have worked well. It would have been amazing to get to see Dichen as the lead. I really loved the relationship she had with Victor

The atmosphere of the show would have changed if she was the forefront of the story. Joss mentioned that he liked going to those dark places, but I don't think it was dark enough or got the message across to many people what the show was examining, particularly in the first season. Had Sierra/Priya been the story from the start, there would have been a different kind of viewing of the show and what it was representing. I think people would have been more open for discussion of those kinds of topics, instead of the outright dismissal many are still doing in regards of the show and its intentions.

Couldn't agree more, tbh. Upon a re-watch, I...didn't dislike Echo/Caroline but I didn't like her, either. I think her back-story was rather dull and didn't really show us the EVOL behind the Dollhouse the way Priya's would have. I also think Eliza's performance took a hit thanks to the stronger performances by the people around her whose characters were more interesting and had more depth.

IDK...The show had a lot of potential but I don't think it ever reached the heights of quality it could have, despite still being enjoyable.

I'm still rather confused on who Caroline was and her entire purpose, because her backstory was never quite clear. I did like the evolution of Echo, but I felt it took too long to reach that point (and once it did it was too quick of a transition) and I never quite got why she was considered special.

With Priya, we would have gone more into the morality issues of the show instead of going to that "special" place. Which is why the show could have shifted more towards Sierra/Priya being the main focus instead of Echo, it would have made more sense.

I also think Eliza's performance took a hit thanks to the stronger performances by the people around her whose characters were more interesting and had more depth.

Sadly, I agree. As much as I love Eliza and what she brought to the show, everyone else kind of pushed her to the background when it came to performances. Not that she didn't do a good job herself, but when compared to Dichen and Enver and Fran, there's no contest.

It's a pretty good show. It's not entirely perfect, but it's very enjoyable. Jsyk, it's relatively darker than other Whedon projects, since it does follow into the whole human trafficking aspect and the perversion of our society, with added science fiction to boot.
