You guys, my excitement reached new levels that when new footage was appearing on my screen I nearly cried from squeeing. I am not joking. This is what happens when you have one of your favorite shows placed on a ONE YEAR hiatus. Now onto the episode....
I do admit I was kind of spoiled from the previews and promos, but it didn't make it any less exciting for me.
We basically begin where we left off from last season's finale, where the four of the final five have just discovered their true identities and Lee meets up with not!dead!Starbuck who declares that she's found Earth. The fleet has been jumped on by a massive Cylon raiding party and everything is all jumbled up. What's interesting is the reactions to Kara's surprising return, how hopeful Adama looked when demanding to identify the viper and how quickly Roslin was to denounce that it was a trick from the Cylons. You can literally see the torn expression on Adama's face when he's trying to decipher whether Kara is really Kara. Throughout the episode you can see him battling with just that. I'll return to Kara and her destiny of leading them to Earth momentarily.
That moment with Tigh in the CIC in the very beginning was like, whoa. I knew that it was him imagining the possibilities but that whole scene, just the way the camera panned across, Tigh looking distraught and then returning back to normal time. It's amazing how you can see the distress Tigh has with this discovery, the same with Anders. We haven't seen much of Tory or Chief's reaction, but judging from the previews it's not going to be long before we see how they're handling it.
Though it was totally awesome how the Cylon Raider scanned Anders' eye -- which glowed red too, I believe? -- and then that was the signal to return back to the baseships and leave. I wonder what that all means. THINKY-THOUGHTS, PEOPLE!
Oh Gaius, returning to your libido status, you horny-man.
Kara Thrace and her Special Destiny, A.K.A. Who/What The Frak Is She?
I'm pretty much have ruled Kara out as a Cylon, since I've said time and time again that conclusion would be too easy, and quite honestly it's too soon to tell. But from this episode alone gives us all a loop to what she isn't and what she could be, and I've been trying to figure it out since she came back in the finale last year.
Let's take a look at the evidence, shall we? Her viper appears to have no scratches or damages, is practically brand new as in freshly polished and everything, her monitors are clean and has no record to where she'd been all that time, and even her time meter showed she'd been gone only some hours where in reality it was two months. This is damned confusing evidence though, if I'm going by my crazy far-fetched theory that she's a reincarnation of one of the Gods or saviors, it would make sense if she descended to Earth, had gotten cleaned up by whomever is living there (possibly the final Cylon or other humans who'd been there the whole time), went back into the sky to take pictures as proof then sent back to to lead humanity to their destination. I know that makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever but it's the only thing I can think of that makes sense with what we've learned. Again, I don't believe she's a Cylon but part of the prophecies in their scriptures and religions.
"All of this has happened before, and all of it will happen again."
I firmly believe this prophecy is the backbone to Kara Thrace's return; it's what Leoben believes and has believed within Kara from the very beginning, about her destiny and that she must embrace it. She has, and now it's up to the people on Galactica to believe her and this is going to really set apart and divide the fleet. Clearly, because of Roslin's determination to not trust anyone that comes back from the dead, very reasonable I must say, to following your gut-feelings and heart that nothing is what it seems, which is what this universe is based on and what Adama does best when leading the fleet in such unpreditable situations.
The ending with Kara pointing the gun at Roslin was something I knew was going to happen, though she's basically losing her credibility of looking completely sane towards everyone. But I WANT someone to believe in Kara, and thankfully Sam does, as does Lee and I think Helo does as well. Adama does I know, but is torn between the rational thing to do and what he truly believes.
So yeah, this season is going to be interesting with the revelation of that and other things.
Gaius Baltar, the BSG-version of Grigori Rasputin?
My sister made a pointed parallel between Baltar and Rasputin, and I have to say the similarities are uncanny and if this is the direction RDM is going in, he is one frighteningly brilliant man.
In an interview James Callis mentions that it's ironic that Gaius has a cult-following of women around him which sort of fits his character's needs and personality, since he is so full of himself and egotistical and has had many lady friends in the sexual manner, before and after the attacks of course. I loved his reaction to him being praised as a religious man who heals, but takes this advantage to being kept safe even if he prefers the brig than, what I'd like to call the teenage version of the Gaius Baltar love shrine, if you will. From taking hints and advice from Six, who's guiding him through it and wanting him to teach them all about the One True God, is quite interesting, not to mention creepy how she's watching over him while all this is happening. That last shot of her smirking after he's discovered the dying boy is now well and without fever was haunting and beautiful at the same time. It was like she was PROUD of him and this was his destiny, and perhaps this was exactly where he needed to be. I can't wait for all this to unravel.
So does this mean that from the Last Supper promotional picture is correct, that Six is the Jesus figure? If so then that's one religious figure I'D like to praise daily, thankyouverymuch. Hee.
Speculations For Upcoming Episodes (based off of the preview for next week)
1. The new Six character introduced, Natalie, is going to try and bring all the Cylons together and Cavil is going to try and hide the identities and the possibility of discovering who the final five are. But she stops him by the use of the Centurions (BTW, that part of the preview I was like OMGYAY NATALIE ILU ALREADY!)
2. The incident between Kara and Roslin is going to tear the crew apart between who believes her and who doesn't, and it's going to take a while before either Adama or Roslin trusts her until some substantial evidence to her telling the truth about traveling to Earth is real. So this means poor Kara is going to suffer more abuse.
3. Caprica Six is going to help the fleet.
Episode Squees of Joy!
++ Roslin is staying inside Admiral Adama's quarters! And Lee's tone when he mentions this is like an "I know what's going on between you two but I'm not saying anything directly about it" kind of casual way. HEE.
++ SHARON!!! For like, only a few seconds surely but still, SHARON ILU!!!
++ Gaius shaving off that beard of his and looking fresh again, which is nice because that beard really did make him look like a creepy Jesus!Gaius....but now with the comparisons it was more like Rasputin!Gaius, which doesn't make it any less creepy actually.
++ Kara with long hair = pretty. Not as long as in the beginning of S3, but still. Just saying.
++ "...Because if I found out that you were a Cylon, I'd put a bullet between your eyes." That line just killed me, even if that was so very Kara it really killed me. Here's Sam, trying to make sense of everything that's going on with him discovering that he's a Cylon, convincing Kara that if by chance she IS then it's all okay between them. Then she hits him hard in the gut that it wouldn't make a difference anyway.....and then hits him over the head with the gun anyway. Heh. Kara, how screwed up you are, I love you anyway though. ♥
++ Six in that red suit = HOT (though is Caprica-Six ever going to get a new outfit? Just saying.)
++ OMG BSG IS BACK BITCHES IT'S BACK YAY OMG YAYAYAY!!!
My show is back bitches, and this final season is going to be one hell of a ride. SO SAY WE ALL!
