Summary: Claire Bennet has lived her life as a relatively normal girl living in Odessa, Texas with her adoptive family, until she discovered that she could heal from any wound. She began recording her daredevil incidents where she would walk in front of moving cars, purposefully fall off bridges and even stab herself through the chest with a iron bars and would miraculously heal from every injury. Others might think this to be a gift, but initially Claire thought herself to be a freak and had only one friend to confide in with this secret of hers. Thus began her journey of self-discovery of figuring out who she was, who her biological parents were, and how she was connected to the grander scheme of things. From rocky relationships with her family to surprising alliances and friendships along the way, and growing up learning more from her faults and weaknesses, and even her strengths, Claire starts realizing that there's more to life than just the ordinary.
Originally planned to be a bouncier-lighter mix, the final decision was the create a matured theme for Claire. Choosing songs that matched her character as she grew more familiar with herself, the ups and downs of her life through her eyes and the events that'd taken place and even taken from other perspectives; "Frozen" is more from Noah Bennet's POV though it is still describing Claire and their rocky father-daughter relationship and the final song, "Twilight", is kind of what I wanted this mix to be all about; of Claire understanding herself and where she belongs, and learning to move onward despite all the things that might be holding her back.
01. "Lemon" by Katy Rose
It's hard enough to deal with the normal struggles of teen life, but Claire Bennet has to live through that plus understand her place in the universe because she has an extraordinary ability of healing from any injury. Sometimes she feels like running away, sometimes she feels like nobody understands her; that her entire life had all been a lie, and her bright world suddenly turns a shade of gray as she discovers more than she ever wanted to know. But somehow she learns to deal, even with the urging feeling of screaming at the top of her lungs from the pressure and the fear and the internal pain.
So hurting here is where I belong dreaming a song
Blood on my hands to stay strong
The flowers in the graveyard are all gone I don't belong
There is no right to heal the wrong
02. "Somebody Help Me" by Full Blown Rose
Destiny. It's a repeated notion that Claire's heard before, she's lived through many miraculous incidents. She might not have understood then, but she understands now that her destiny has called her the moment she was born, and from the moment her ability had woken from inside of her. But she still doesn't quite understand, and no matter how strong she is Claire sometimes needs someone there to help her along on this long hard road of discovering her full potential and what she can accomplish.
I've seen the face of my affliction
Of my reality
I'm being tortured by the future
Of things that are yet to be
I'm being haunted by a vision
It's like the morning never comes
I feel the burden of confusion
always searching, on the run
03. "Let Me Fall" by Alexz Johnson
She's made her mistakes, she's suffered the consequences; she's learned to be stronger, to endure, to be passionate in what she believes in. She's loyal to her friends and family, and is only trying to search for herself in the process in growing up. And sometimes, it's better to let heroes fall down so they can pick themselves up again.
If I burn down in this fire
Well, I got myself to blame
I can't stop or give it up
I need to feel the pain
Can you hear me?
Don't come near me
You'll just get in my way
I'm only human
And there's nothing you can say
04. "Smoke and Mirrors" by Skye Sweetnam
It doesn't matter how many times Claire has jumped off of buildings, had gotten run over by cars, walked through fire without getting burned or having her limps being disconnected from the rest of her body. The biggest wound is of the emotional kind, and there is no magical power or special ability that can take away the pain. However, Claire manages to go through her life despite bottling up her emotions.
You must try hard, don't give in
Keep it up and you win
Don't let them know they get to you
Put on a brave face and you'll get through
On your own, on your own way
05. "Frozen" by Within Temptation
After realizing the truth about her father, Claire turns the other direction. But even as their father-daughter relationship hits that rocky road, Noah Bennet tries to convince her that all he's done, the good and the bad -- even the downright horrible -- was all done to ensure her safety. Between withholding information and telling lies to each other, their pattern of distrust circles again and again, and in the end everything that's happened comes at a greater price.
I can feel your sorrow
You won't forgive me,
but I know you'll be all right
It tears me apart that you will never know but I have to let go
Tell me I'm frozen but what can I do?
Can't tell the reasons I did it for you
When lies turn into truth I sacrificed for you
You say that I'm frozen but what can I do?
06. "Way Back Home" by The Wreckers
It's been one long journey for Claire Bennet, and it's not even halfway finished yet. From understanding oneself and undergoing self-discovery, uncovering family secrets and lies, almost getting killed by a psychotic brain-slicing serial killer and realizing that everything that's happened is connected to something bigger, it's enough to say that Claire's teenage life has gone through more than it's share. However, in the midst of it all, she pauses to reflect on it and discovers that despite growing up as an indestructible cheerleader, she always has a place to go back home to.
Somewhere in the country
There's a place
Where nobody knows your name
When I'm feeling lonely there's a train
That helps me run away
07. "Twilight" by Vanessa Carlton
Nobody can survive entirely on their own, even those extraordinary need someone to pick them up once in a while. In her life Claire has made some amazing friendships, allies and a family that loves and cares about her no matter what; all of these people, from her father to Peter Petrelli to her best friend, Zach, back in Odessa, Texas, she's taken and learned many things from them that have given her the knowledge and courage to stand up and just be who she is.
I was stained, with a role, in a day not my own
But as you walked into my life you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew, what was right I just didn't know that I might
Peel away and choose to see with such a different sight
And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say goodbye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, 'cause I've seen, twilight
In semi-related news, I'm unsure whether I should or shouldn't look at the new teaser-trailer for Heroes Volume 3: Villains. I mean, does it have spoiler footage like the previous ones had or what? I'm afraid of getting tempted with looking before actually knowing anything, despite my own theories on what this season's going to be about.
