Lazy, lethargic Sunday morning.
First, a friending meme, which hello and welcome to everyone who I met from over there.

And now, for a fandom meme:
Give me a fandom and I'll tell you, either in the comments or in a separate post, five unpopular opinions and one headcanon I have for that particular fandom.

Unpopular Opinions

01. I prefer the development that happened in the series for Simon/Kaylee, which was more warm and organic, than in the film Serenity. Similar with Simon and River and how they became part of the family towards the end of the show as opposed to how in the film it made it seem like they were mere outsiders. I know it was a narrative decision for the film, but it doesn't really mesh well with where the series ended to how the film began with character relationships.

02. Despite the disappointment over the racial issues, it hasn't hindered my love or enjoyment of the series and the universe that was created. I just wish it was acknowledged more by the people involved.

03. I've gotten to the point where the declaration of "why was it cancelled?" and "it deserves a second season" has begun to annoy the fuck out of me. Yes, when it initially got cancelled it was heartbreaking and unfair and definitely deserved another network to pick it up for another season. It's a sentiment everyone who has seen the show shares. But look at where we are all these years later. The series has become a cult hit because it was the underdog and spawned so much attention from devoted fans. It got itself a feature film to conclude one of the storylines and give the actors closure for their characters, there are comic books and the online game that continues the 'verse. What other shortly lived show has reached this level? As much as I would have loved for there to have been six seasons of Firefly, I much prefer where we are now. Also it's kind of perfect because 14 episodes that were flawless and a film are much better than endless seasons where it probably would have seen a decline in quality, as most shows, even great ones, unfortunately do.

04. As painful as it is, I can understand why Wash's death was necessary for the narrative of the film. Doesn't mean I have to accept it, but I understand the decision behind it.

05. Jayne Cobb is more likeable than Adam Baldwin.

My Personal Headcanon

(I have quite a few character headcanons, this is an example of one.)

Jayne comes from a very big working class family, where he has mostly sisters and he is quite clearly a mama's boy (evidenced by the money earned from jobs back home and how he proudly wears a knitted hat made by his mother). While his father taught him about finding jobs and taking nobodies side but your own, his mother instilled a level of compassion and loyalty when it comes to those he is employed by. Jayne became a mercenary because he found the job thrilling, and interestingly enough his family didn't oppose to it. His mother only advised him to "be careful" and send home letters letting them know he's okay. Jayne feels strongly about family, perhaps why, out of all the jobs he's had, he considers Mal and the crew on Serenity to be the closest thing to family he has out there in the black. Especially because, despite how much they clash on issues, he sees Mal as a big brother figure that he never quite had. And it's why he doesn't want to disappoint Mal (ex: the way he defends himself and looks ashamed when Mal confronts him in "Ariel", even tells Mal to "make something up" in not revealing to the others what he did).

Unpopular Opinions

01. I actually liked the seventh season. It wasn't perfect and had plenty of flaws, but for a final season it was alright. I liked the addition of the Potential Slayers, I liked the furthering of the purpose of the First Evil (even though I wished that had been more present throughout the show, but again, flaws), and overall I liked the series finale. If I were to rank the season, it would go (from favorite to least favorite): S3, S2, S1, S7, S4, S6.

02. The more I revisit the show, the more I become disillusioned by some of the things I didn't really have an issue with before. For example, I find myself really disliking Willow, particularly in the later seasons and how she treated certain characters. IMHO, Tara should never have taken her back.

03. I don't view Willow as bisexual. While the lack of conversation regarding sexuality within the narrative was disappointing, she clearly states in-canon that she identifies as a lesbian. Therefore she is a lesbian.

04. I love Dawn, and the unfounded hatred she still gets from fandom appalls me.

05. I like that there was no definitive "endgame" relationship for Buffy, and that all the romances that happened were significant points in her life, but she moves on.

My Personal Headcanon

That being said, in my headcanon after Sunnydale was destroyed, Buffy and Faith ride off into the sunset together on Faith's newly acquired motorcycle and they continue being "hot chicks with superpowers" while rounding up all the Potentials-turned-Slayers. And Cordelia (who totally isn't dead) had continued to remain in contact with them throughout the years after she left Sunnydale, giving them updates after she teamed up with Angel and whatnot, and after everything that happened in L.A. she decided to visit some of them from time to time, even possibly joining up with them after the destruction of Sunnydale and the battle in L.A., which she absolutely participated and kicked major ass in.

01. Even though I tend to love all the girls for different reasons, the one that I like the least has been Aria. This is due to how her storylines have been, especially the ones mostly revolving around Ezra (which apparently is all the time), since I never liked their relationship even before what was revealed about him.

02. Ezra would have made a fantastic antagonist had they not chickened out from making him the creepy child stalker and predator that they initially made him out to be in the fourth season (and that he still is, lbr). It would have made for an excellent twist of events and disillusioned Aria from her romanticizing of the romance she had with him. The actor wouldn't leave the show, but rather have something different and challenging to play for his character, which I don't think he would've minded at all. It would have fit the theme of the show, considering that other adult men the girls have encountered have proved to be just as creepy and have gotten theirs one way or another. The fact that they decided to not go in that direction makes me incredibly angry because we all know why they didn't. I know this show loves their red-herrings and all, but JFC this was a perfect opportunity to make something fascinating and they took the boring way out from it in favor of a supposedly popular pairing of the show so they wouldn't lose fans. And it pisses me off.

03. I'm finding that the more the fifth season goes on the more I love Alison. She's definitely not a saint and certainly has to atone for the things she's done to cause pain to others, but I'm more sympathetic towards her cause than anything else that is happening at the moment.

04. I don't like Paige or her relationship with Emily, which I see absolutely no chemistry or compatibility between them whatsoever.

05a. I actually really liked the Ravenswood tie-in and spinoff. While I wasn't fond of what they did with Hanna and Caleb during this, which was the mistake leading to its downfall and unfortunate demise, I found the storytelling much simpler with it being a classic ghost story (with legit scares) and I wished it had gotten at least a second season to wrap up the story a bit better than how it was left off.

05b. I don't mind not knowing who "A" is, since I like the air of mystery surrounding the actual identity, I just wish the writing was more solid and the flow of the storylines were better rather than going around in circles and slowly drawing things out. That, I feel, is what is destroying the flow of the show, imho. Especially since they have extended seasons now (25 episodes for S5 in total), they could do much better with pacing and without adding all these nonsensical subplots and storylines.

My Personal Headcanon

There's this AU version in my head where Spencer and Toby legitimately did join the "A" team, and they didn't know the other did until they discover each other either at an official "A" club meeting or while out on a job. They, of course, have been together for a while but this is the first time they come face-to-face with the fact that they other has been involved this whole time. Both were recruited by Mona, both still questioning why, but both having reasons and motive for joining anyway. They don't tell anyone else, and they remain together while being part of the "A" team. In another version of this AU, Spencer and Toby meet through their involvement with "A".

Ever since the show had them be part of it despite it very an incredibly brief time, I always liked the notion of them still operating secretly underneath "A" and still being together.

(I don't have too many since the show is still new and hasn't finished its first season yet, but I do have a couple.)

01. I like Rebecca Sutter. I didn't realize people weren't fond of her character until I looked online and I'm just baffled. But I really like her a whole lot, and I also like her relationship with Wes.

02. Connor certainly isn't a saint, but I do like his relationship with Oliver and I really want them to work out despite the complications that are sure to follow.

Unpopular Opinions

I don't really have any unpopular opinions? It's a pretty solid webseries, as far as I'm concerned.

The only thing that would qualify is that I'm glad that Danny and Laura didn't become a thing. I mean, it's nice that there was a mutual attraction with the two and they clearly did like the other and something could've occurred, but I like that despite that they weren't really compatible with each other and it's shown that that's okay. Yeah, Danny was a little heartbroken by the outcome and Laura felt bad for breaking her heart about it, but they moved past that. I'm sure Danny will find someone else who is better suited for her.

01. I love Skye. I love all the ladies on AOS, but I immediately loved Skye even before I started watching the show and I knew that she would be getting the most hate from people at first. But I adore her and want to protect her at all costs. I don't think that's necessarily unpopular these days though.

02. I don't mind people who still like Ward, just as long as there's acknowledgment of the horrible things he's done and continues to do. Liking villain characters isn't the problem. It's the apologists who woobify him and make it seem like he's the victim and righteous in what he does that I take issue with.

03. I ship FitzSimmons, but I wouldn't mind seeing them finding other relationships along the way either.

My Personal Headcanon

Jemma is totally bisexual and is completely crushing on Bobbi, to the point where she begins to feel like she's overstepped her boundaries because she doesn't think Bobbi feels the same way, and perhaps she feels conflicted because of her own feelings for Fitz never mind Bobbi and her own complicated relationship with Lance Hunter. But during a conversation with Bobbi regarding work and the progression with Fitz, Jemma is surprised when Bobbi makes casual talk about reciprocating those feelings, and how even though things are complicated at the moment for them all, she's completely open to the idea of perhaps exploring more in the future if Jemma is still interested. This makes Jemma incredibly giddy, like over-the-moon babbling kind of giddy. And you know that Melinda May secretly ships them, as well, and just wants them all to be happy.

01. Aside from Lucius/Narcissa and Lily/James, I didn't care much for the official canonical pairings. Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, etc. Most of them didn't make sense to me or just happened out of the blue. I also found it incredibly unrealistic that they remained together all those years later.

02. I love Cho Chang and am incredibly protective of her. ♥

03. I love Draco Malfoy and will forever defend him. ♥

04. The entire Housing system at Hogwarts is flawed as fuck, we all know this, and it's something I wish we learned whether it actually got demolished later on because I find it's incredibly damaging and reenforces the horrible stereotypes that the Wizarding society continues to endorse. It's ironic, though, since we (as fans and the audience) are well aware of this fact, and yet we still get entirely defensive and serious when it comes to our own Sorting inside a particular House. *sighs*

05. I feel like the series would have been better if Harry had been sorted into Slytherin. It would have gone into some fascinating directions. Like, he had already befriended Ron and Hermione and would have to deal with (and even want to change) the way people treated him differently after being sorted. He would also befriend Draco, someone who he clashed with morally but still wanted to be friends with regardless. I just feel like it would have been a better dynamic had Harry gone against the grain of what everyone else expected from him, you know? He would have broken the barriers of being The Boy Who Lived who was a Slytherin and who wanted House Unity to actually be a thing. And his friendship with Draco, while somewhat complicated at times, would have been legit and it would have been beautiful. IDK. The more I think about what could have been I cry because it's such a wasted opportunity to tell the story in a different way. but I know that's what fanfiction is for

My Personal Headcanon

Harry and Draco met up after the final war and the rebuilding of the Wizarding World. It was awkward at first, because Harry did pardon him and his family during the trials since both he and Narcissa saved his life, but they finally become civil with each other and even become good friends soon thereafter. Lucius is a bit uneasy about this arrangement but he is trying to change (key word being trying), however Narcissa is more than tolerable of the situation and even grateful since Harry places a good word in with Draco when he starts going out into the world again, as I feel that after everything that conspired the Wizarding society might not have been too keen on the Malfoys and their part with associating as Death Eaters and with Voldemort.

Harry himself tries his best to place a good word in for Draco and his family, saying that they've been pardoned from their crimes because they redeemed themselves, but some are less forgiving than others and they nearly get shunned to the point of receiving threatens from families of the fallen and victims of Voldemorts tortures. But it eventually gets better as time goes on, with Harry and Draco with their new found friendship (and perhaps a beginning of a relationship), the Malfoys restore their name in Wizarding society again.

Unpopular Opinions

01. As much as a disappointment the second season has been, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still shipping the hell out of Abbie/Ichabod, no matter if Ichabod is still technically married. It doesn't help that the two actors are attractive and adorable together, so. :3

02. Katrina either needs to get herself a capable storyline where she does something useful, or just disappear from the show altogether. I just can't anymore.

03. The Headless Horseman (Abraham) needed to remain headless.

My Personal Headcanon

Although Ichabod and Abbie are both linked together being witnesses of the apocalypse and are excellent partners in crime, it's Abbie and Jenny that run the show, and Ichabod knows it. They are all a team that organizes and fights evil and does awesome shit together, with Irving remaining in the background overseeing some of their awesomeness. Ichabod and Abbie then continue being cutie pies as he learns about modern culture, and Jenny shakes her head secretly being a shipper (Irving too).

Dollhouse and/or Veronica Mars? :)
Renée: Sierra. Incognito.rogueslayer452 on February 9th, 2015 07:08 pm (UTC)

Unpopular Opinions

01. I actually liked Dollhouse. It wasn't a perfect show, obviously had severe executive meddling that occurred during the first half of the show for sure, but I liked it for what it was. I can see why even Whedon fans weren't too fond of this show, and why some were repelled by its content, but overall I did like the themes and messages that the show was trying to convey, even through sugarcoated glasses until it got darker and more interesting in the second season.

02. As much as I like Echo, Sierra/Priya and her story should have been the main focus of the series.

03. I feel like the first half of the second season should have been fully self-aware Echo and the reveal of Boyd, and the second half should have been what happened in the future after they destroyed Rossum. It would have been perfect given that there were still so many things that weren't properly explained or given a chance to develop. I know it was because of the cancellation, but still.

04. I wasn't bothered by Paul as a character, since I felt he became kind of a deconstruction of the White Knight trope after his failed attempt at saving Echo and then becoming trapped by the Dollhouse as well. I just didn't like the whole Paul/Echo thing. I don't know whether this is an unpopular opinion or not, though.

My Personal Headcanon

I don't know if I have one in particular. I mean, for me Beckett and Whiskey wouldn't have died and would have survived the future, and that Tony and Priya managed to figure things out and be happy together after everything.

Lost Girl?
Renée: Lost Girl. Bo. Succubus.rogueslayer452 on February 10th, 2015 12:24 am (UTC)
Unpopular Opinions

01. I love the show, but it's been showing its decline in quality for a while now. S1 and S2 were perhaps my favorite seasons simply from the way they were structured, S3 had a great setup for something that could've been epic and amazing but unfortunately it fell incredibly flat in S4. And now S5 has just been dull and lackluster despite it being the last season. Alas, as much as I do love this show they haven't been good with the quality and pacing of writing a good long-lasting plot.

02. I don't like Bo with Lauren. Aside from the lack of chemistry, I have really disliked the way Lauren has treated Bo on numerous occasions (i.e. her not trusting Bo to make her own decisions, not believing in Bo, mocking Bo's level of intelligence, how she emotionally manipulates and has used her and other characters too just to name a few examples). The fact that they're seemingly trying to make it endgame infuriates me, since it's so cliched and stupid and overall it makes no sense given everything we have known about Bo and her status of relationships after they had ended.

03. I miss Kenzi's multi-colored wigs/streaks/hairstyles. :(

04. I liked the idea of Hale/Kenzi since I had shipped them very early on, but in hindsight there were moments where I questioned it. Like when Hale called Kenzi's mother in order to be present when he proposed to her despite her having said repeatedly that she had a horrible relationship with her mom and that was the reason why she ran away and never returned. I also feel cheated that we only got minimal development of what would have been the start of their relationship until the proposal happened and then he died. It felt too rushed for anything to happen, and it makes his death and Kenzi's leaving because of his death kind of, well, meh. :/

05. The show needs more of Bo's mom and less focus on her father and whatever these Greek gods are doing. Just saying.

My Personal Headcanon

Bo is polyamorous, and discovers this quite early on after her relationship with Lauren ended. She tried to be monogamous for her but it didn't work, she actually found it more complicated to be monogamous due to her nature as a Succubus and needing that freedom of having sexual healing from others. And guess what? It works. She is able to have multiple relationships with those in her life without any complications, and they also understand that arrangement, and they're okay with that. Bo loves those in her life and has different needs from each other them, and they're all totally cool with that. Bo is able to keep her extended found family while still maintaining these romantic and sexually based relationships with no complications whatsoever.

Unpopular Opinions

01. I don't really ship anyone in this fandom. Aside from Natasha/Clint, really, but even that it's more of a casual kind of shipping. Otherwise I don't really get too deep into the fandom side of things of the MCU.

02. I am going to miss Joss when it comes to the next upcoming Avengers films.

03. Not necessarily of the Avengers per se, but I miss Natasha's long curly locks from Iron Man 2.

My Personal Headcanon

Nothing happened in Budapest. It's just a small inside joke that Natasha and Clint have with each other about their jobs and where it has taken them, and both have been to Budapest just at separate times on separate missions.

Elementary or Orphan Black? I don't think either are taken.
Renée: Orphan Black. Clone Club.rogueslayer452 on February 12th, 2015 12:58 pm (UTC)

Unpopular Opinions

01. I know she's the least liked of the clones, but I'm fascinated by Rachel. Her having always known about her identity as a clone intrigues me, and I really like the way Tatiana portrays her. Like with everyone else she plays, Rachel has a very distinctive personality; the way she moves, the way she talks, even the way she sees herself versus how she sees her other clones. It's all telling about her character and it interests me.

02. I'm actually pretty curious about what they're planning on doing with Project Castor and the male clones, again all who are self-aware about who and what they are.

03. Even though so many people ship it, I'm uncertain about Cosima/Delphine. I can't quite place my finger on why. Perhaps it reminds me too much of Bo/Lauren from Lost Girl, especially the sketchiness of how they got together, and how I'm suspicious of Delphine's true intentions may be.

04. I miss Sarah's punk style. She still has a bit of it, but I really like how she looked in the series premiere before dying her hair to impersonate Beth.

My Personal Headcanon

I've kind of adopted the headcanon that Beth and Alison were definitely close, even for the short period of time that they knew each other and had to remain discreet. The loss of Beth really hit Alison hard, but she doesn't have time to dwell on it because she knew that Beth had warned her something like this would happen, so she muddles through. Despite it being through alcohol.
