Wait a minute, let me take you there.
++ First image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman. I highly approve. (◕ω◕✿)

++ Voting for the Empire Awards has begun. More than anything I'm really hoping for Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) to get recognition for their amazing performances in their respective films. They both deserve it, dammit, and it would make up for the blatant Oscar snubs.

++ So I watched the Sleepy Hollow finale, and honestly I'm quite conflicted. On one hand we seem to be getting our restart of the show after the mess the second season was, on the other hand they had to kill off Katrina in order for that to happen. I wasn't fond of what they were doing with her character, or lack thereof, for most of the season but the whole "let's turn her evil so we can kill her off" is super cliched. The problem wasn't with Katrina as a character but rather the material they were giving her; she would've been wonderful had they given her an interesting storyline from the beginning or thought about making her turn dark (as many fans had theorized prior) but they chose to lag on everything with her and the whole Crane nonsense. And that decision affected the entire season as a whole.

Granted with the nature of this show Katrina could easily return as some kind of spirit demon or something like that, anything is possible. But as it currently stands, it was incredibly sloppy with how they handled her character; all that wasted potential and they decide to kill her off to wipe the slate clean in fixing their mistakes. I knew that it would be a long shot to allow her to live and just write her out of the show entirely rather than killing her off, but it's such an overdone thing to make a woman character evil to kill her off, you know? Idk.

At least Abbie and Ichabod were adorable as they usually are? And that the Dream Team (Abbie, Jenny, Ichabod and Irving) are back together. The show may have turned into a mess but at least there's that.

++ This really short-film which features the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers as adults, starring James van Der Beek and Katee Sackhoff. It's only fourteen minutes and clearly meant for the Internet, but damn if it doesn't make me wish it actually existed as a full-length feature film. Really makes me nostalgic for my classic MMPR. Plus, Katee as Kimberly/Pink Ranger? More of that, please. It also makes me really want her to play Captain Marvel even more than I already did, but that's a given, so.

++ The news that any more sequels to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is unlikely makes me incredibly sad. I wanted the entire trilogy to be made, since they were discussing it in the behind the scenes that yeah, they were planning this to become a trilogy. They already have a script written and everything, but Sony are being buttheads about it and it's been some time since the first film was released (something I wished they had locked down though considering the plans for more, since other franchises have done similarly when there's a possibility for more), everyone else is doing other things, so the likelihood of them returning for the next two films probably won't happen unless a miracle occurs for it to be so. Which sucks so much. Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander was perfection and I was really hoping to see more of her portrayal of the character in future films. :/

RE: Jason Momoa.... I know right? Did you see what I did to that photo? ;)

I'm quite sad they aren't likely to make anymore Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films either... I really liked Daniel Craig as Blomkvist as well and like you said, Lisbeth was really strong in it. :(
Renée: Lisbeth Salander.rogueslayer452 on February 25th, 2015 06:28 pm (UTC)
Yes I did, and I also approve. ;p

It was such a solid cast and the filming, the music, everything was beautiful. I know that there have been scheduling issues but I didn't know the other complications that attributed to it. I really want to hope that things will get settled and that the sequels will happen at some point.

Jason Mamoa is basically the reason I am switching my Alliegence from Marvel for a little bit. I am so proud of him but hell always be Ronon Dex for me X3333.

My exact feelings on Sleepy Hollow but we will discuss this on my Journal. BUT ICHABBIE AND THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

I AM SO MAD ABOUT THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO!! It was so good and honestly no one is gonna play Lisabeth Salander better than Rooney she was nominated for a Oscar for it for heaven sakes!

For me I'll always refer to him as either Ronon or Drogo, but regardless Jason being Aquaman is just amazing and I cannot wait to see how he does in the role. Already I'm loving that they're including some Polynesian cultural influence.

I really, really want to hope that somehow they'll make the sequels happen because they cannot just leave it like that. I want this trilogy to leave a legacy much like the Swedish films did. The writing, the cinematography, the casting and the acting, it was so beautifully done that it kind of baffles me that they wouldn't want the rest of the sequels. Just, ugh. I want more, dammit. I want to see how they would've adapted The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest.

Also, it's bullshit that things like 5SOG are going to get sequels when these films, this story, won't.

(And yeah, there are still the Swedish films, but I wanted more of Rooney as Lisbeth. To me, her version of the character was perfect.)

It was lame to make Katrina evil and then kill her instantly. Like, if we're going to make her evil, let's get some mileage out of it, you know? Like, make her evil in the middle of the season and kill her at the end, or make her evil at the end of this season and use it next season. I should make a post, lol.
Renée: BSG. Natalie is not pleased.rogueslayer452 on February 26th, 2015 04:00 am (UTC)
It really was. Either they should've revealed her turning dark earlier on or have this revelation happen so it could leave an imprint for the next season, but don't just introduce something like that as a reason to kill her off like some kind of jacked up justification for restarting the whole show. Like yeah, the storyline with Katrina was part of the problem of the season, but it wasn't the only problem and had the writers did something fascinating with her character like that from the beginning we wouldn't have most of this problem. Dark!Katrina as an antagonist is much better than what they were giving us.

So yeah. It was lame of them, it was lame that they chose the easy way out. Yeah, I wanted Abbie and Ichabod and Jenny and Irving back as Team Badass again, but dammit if dark!Katrina was part of the equation from the start I would've wanted that too. She could've been an interesting addition had they allowed her to be so.

Yeah, I could rant about this for a long time. Basically, shows like to get rid of woman characters either by killing them off or making evil to justify killing them off. And it's stupid.

I'm so disappointed about SH.
A show always gets tainted if they do the "let's kill a woman because fandom dislikes her" thing. It's common practice by now, and I never was a fan of it.

I would have loved more dragon tattoo movies, too :(
Guess it wasn't meant to be.
Renéerogueslayer452 on February 26th, 2015 03:55 am (UTC)
The fact that it's common practice in the writer's room makes me sad and equally angry at the same time. Why isn't there an alternative for that? Why is that the only option writers seem to think is available for getting rid of a female character? Why shouldn't there be more options? It's such bullshit. :/

I want it to be meant to be. It should be meant to be. I want the sequels and the trilogy to leave a legacy much like the Swedish films did. :(

I wasn't even interested in Aquaman but then /JASON MOMOA/ and how can I not?
Renée: Inara Serra. Smile.rogueslayer452 on February 26th, 2015 03:43 am (UTC)
Same. I'm not much into the whole comics scene so I have very little knowledge about Aquaman. But with Jason being cast, I cannot complain one bit. ;)

Aquaman looks absolutely amazing.

The SH finale was...weird, for exactly the reasons you said. Reboot the show in return for sacrificing Katrina? That's...very, very ehhh at best cause hey, here's another sacrificial female character for the the altar? And it's just so weird, given how much time they spent on her early in the season? The pacing just feels really off, and it feels like the writers are scrambling for the closet thing to a reset button they have and I probably need to stew on it more.
Renéerogueslayer452 on February 28th, 2015 07:47 pm (UTC)
I somehow feel like they want to eliminate what they think is the problem without really understanding the issue many people had with the season. It wasn't the characters, but rather what they were doing with them. Sacrificing Katrina for the sake of the show goes right into the "women in refrigerators" situation, and it just doesn't sit right with me.

Sleepy Hollow has a solid cast. I don't know where else there's such a good representation of people of color in a genre show. The character of Ichabod Crane is inimitable. Katrina's turn to the dark side did seem rushed, and she didn't seem all that into it (perhaps because the actress wasn't).

I'm sure she would've been had they planned it earlier on and she got a chance to play around with the character having turned dark. But as it was, it was such wasted potential just to rush the restart of the show.
noybusiness: samdeehighschoolnoybusiness on March 1st, 2015 04:26 am (UTC)
They'll have to change the main title sequence, since it's all about Ichabod and Katrina having a rendezvous in the woods.

I know zip about Aquaman but Jason Mamoa - hello, suddenly interested!! lol.

It would be nice to see Rosamund get an award for that movie, she was all kinds of awesome. I remember she had a lot of buzz, initially, but then Julianne Moore kinda took over and was pretty much unbeatable this season. Totally deserved, but it was a shame for Rosamund bc women don't get roles like that all that often.
Renée: Nikita. Femme Fatale.rogueslayer452 on February 28th, 2015 07:53 pm (UTC)
lol, pretty much my reaction too.

I agree, roles like that don't appear too often for women and Rosamund completely nailed everything with her performance. I just feel like Gone Girl in general got robbed because the author wrote the screenplay, an opportunity that doesn't come around too often when there's an adaptation happening, and Rosamund got to play this sadistic woman character who you rarely see much in film. I really thought that Gone Girl had it in the bag to win something from the Oscars, because the film is precisely what the Oscars look for in celebrating that kind of a film. So it really puzzles me that it wasn't even considered for more nominations.

I'm not really a Power Rangers fan at all but that trailer..... I WANT MORE!

Did they make the full Girl With a Dragon Tattoo trilogy in another language? I could swear there are three movies out there somewhere. Not the same I know. I'm still sad we never got the chance to have a full Dark Materials trilogy.

Renée: Lisbeth Salander.rogueslayer452 on March 1st, 2015 02:58 am (UTC)
Yeah, the Swedish miniseries films with Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander.

I want Rooney's Lisbeth to have the similar treatment of having a trilogy, since the first one was really amazing and I loved seeing the behind-the-scenes with how they created her version of the character (the costuming and how they transformed her was amazing, imho), and I wanted to see how they were going to adapt the rest of the books. I want to have hope that somehow the sequels will happen, but the further away we get from the first film the less likely it appears to be. :(

Same! I know some people really didn't link the grimdark update but I have NO attachment to Power Rangers, so I was like, 'this is just so cool!'
