Are you the Devil?
Suicide Squad: Harley Quinn. ♥ ♥ ♥ I'm not huge on comic books, but I know vaguely about the Suicide Squad and I certainly know about Harley Quinn and seeing this makes me really anticipating what Margot Robbie is going to bring to the character. Already I am captivated what is seen in the trailer.

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice: Honestly, Wonder Woman and Aquaman (not shown in the trailer) are the only things I care about regarding this film. Although in my head I still believe that Gina Torres or Morena Baccarin should be Wonder Woman, we'll see how Gal Gabot does. Which is a huge kind of pressure because, well, the first time we'll be seeing Wonder Woman ever on the big screen and her performance could determine whether there will be more Wonder Woman in the future.

Jenny's Wedding: I know, I know, Katherine Heigl isn't exactly best known for her roles that she continues getting typecast in with romance and weddings and such. This one, however, is about a lesbian wedding and her character coming out to her parents. And while I suspect that it'll follow the similar setup, it appears to be less of a romcom that we're used to seeing with her and just more of a character drama surrounding the struggle of coming out to your family and the acceptance. Of course, my only thought while watching this trailer was how strange it was seeing Isabel Evans and Rory Gilmore being in a relationship and getting married. It actually wouldn't surprise me if someone out there already had that crossover ship, and thus their wishes have come true.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: In this exclusive reel shown at SDCC, while no spoilers were given, it does give you a taste of what production was like, and the with practicality of it all it already differs much from the prequels in that sense. It has me really hoping this movie measures up to the level of excitement they're projecting.

And while this isn't movie news, Elodie Yung has been cast as Elektra for the second season of Daredevil. She looks absolutely perfect for the role, and if you see some of her fight scenes, especially the one where she looks similar to Elektra, it's not hard to understand why they chose her, at least in the action capability area.

There was a Suicide Squad episode when I was watching Arrow (maybe more since?), and while the concept was interesting, the execution didn't grab me. The 2nd Suicide Squad fantrailer here looked super fun, but the real thing looks as gritty as BvS and probably most of the DC Movieverse in the near future, so that won't be for me.
Renéerogueslayer452 on July 15th, 2015 07:20 pm (UTC)
The DC movieverse has been down that grim and grittier road for quite some time now, and while I do think such dark storytelling can work given the right direction, I think many people are getting tired of it from DC. And I'll admit to not even watching any DC movies that have come out in recent years either because, well, I just don't care for them.

That being said, I do like the look of Suicide Squad. I don't know if it's because of the characters, Harley Quinn esp, or what, but visually it works for the atmosphere I think they're creating.

Yeah, I haven't seen any of the recent Batman and Superman movies.
Galadriel.: Star Wars ✽ How are you?sixphanel on July 14th, 2015 10:13 pm (UTC)
I feel that way about Star Wars too. The fact that they're building stuff instead of turning to CGI is a great step from the new trilogy (what should it be called now? prequel? not-so-new-trilogy?) And I do believe that JJ is going to do justice to this saga. He better!

I know, right? Just seeing that they're using more practical effects makes a huge difference from the prequels where it was mostly CGI. And while I don't think adding CGI is a bad thing, it shouldn't have been so overused for everything that Lucas did. I mean, I know during that time the technology was new and shiny and he wanted to improve on what he originally created with just the bare minimum with the original trilogy, but it there is such a thing as overdoing it in that department and it really shows when you look at them now.

Here you can tell, at least from the footage shown, that they're using CGI to enhance the experience with the practical visuals rather than allow it to take over entirely, you know?

I'm just crossing my fingers the execution does everything justice.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Harley in Suicide Squad.
Renéerogueslayer452 on July 15th, 2015 04:00 am (UTC)
Same here. The trailer makes her look absolutely awesome, I love the look and how Margot seems to be portraying her. It's just all the matter of how the movie does overall.

Jenny's Wedding looks really interesting. True KH does seem to play the same character in all her stuff but at least she is good at. Plus she's playing a gay character. Yeah!

Not a big comic book fan But The Force Awakens looks promising.

I know some will see this as just a gimmick, with the story being the same as everything else she's done. But at least it'll be something different in terms of her playing a lesbian character and exploring the difficulties that come with coming out, and since when as gay/lesbian-themed romances ever gotten the cliched treatment that most straight romances in mainstream romcoms gotten?
Kevin Jonesmulder200 on July 15th, 2015 06:12 am (UTC)
Oh no! i was talking about KH not gay/lesbian romance.

No matter what she is in, she always plays the SAME character type over and over.

I cannot wait for Suicide Squad :D

It sucks that Katherine Heigl has kind of been pinned into those roles but.. I'd be lying if I said I didn't love most of her romcoms. I don't even watch many of them and I think it's safe to say I've liked pretty much all of hers. I really want to see this one!

Renéerogueslayer452 on July 15th, 2015 03:34 am (UTC)
Aside from stuff from her earlier works, I don't think I've seen any of her other movies of recent years, since romcoms aren't really my thing. However, because this one is necessarily of that genre per se it does look pretty decent and interesting given the subject matter. And it leads me to believing it will be a happy ending, which isn't always the case when it comes to lesbian/gay movies.

It actually looks to be decent.

Jenny's Wedding? Gimme. I want to watch that so badly.

I know next to nothing about the Suicide Squad beyond what they've done on Arrow. The trailer makes it look fun though and I'm psyched for Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Oh wow, the trailer for Jenny's Wedding almost had me in tears. I will definitely see that.

Suicide Squad looks awesome. Mostly I am excited for Harley Quinn, she looked amazing and she's one of my favourite DC characters.

I did try watching the Batman vs Superman trailer and it just looks... boring.
Renéerogueslayer452 on July 25th, 2015 07:57 pm (UTC)
She, indeed, does look pretty damn amazing. I really want do see how Margot does in portraying her in this film. ♥

Yeah, everything surrounding the who BvS seems rather uninteresting. I mean, there's Wonder Woman and Aquaman, but I'm not sure they're enough for me to want to even pay to see it, tbh.
