March Question Meme: Day One
Asked by halliwell:

What upcoming movies are you most looking forward to seeing?

Aside from the rest of the Star Wars sequel trilogy in the next upcoming years, there is Star Wars: Rogue One, the prequel spin-off which will be released at the end of this year. I've never been that huge of a Star Wars fan, but ever since The Force Awakens I'm basically pretty excited about these new string of films. Most importantly, the fact that they'll be featuring so many women in them makes it even more worthwhile, in my honest opinion. The casting announcements have me so hyped. Women and more diversity in Star Wars, and if the rumors are true possibly some LGBTQ representation as well. I mean, it all depends on how well it's handled, but I loved TFA so I'm hoping that the future films will deliver just as good, even better.

Wonder Woman, which won't be out until next year, but since I'm not at all interested in seeing Batman vs. Superman even just for her, I'm mostly going off of her upcoming solo film. That is probably the most anticipated DC film that I am excited about, because we'll finally have Wonder Woman on the big screen. And I am praying that it does well because, holy shit, imagine the possibilities of having a Wonder Woman franchise? Having her be present in other DC films? I am so psyched about this, you don't even know.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, another film that will be released in 2017. I'm a huge fan of the Resident Evil movie franchise and I've been waiting for a long time for the next installment, and this is allegedly the last one. Which part of me is sad about, because these films have been ridiculously fun and I love seeing Milla Jovovich as Alice kicking ass, but I'm hoping that the franchise will end on a massive bang as it's intended to.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them because let's face it, I'm still a huge Harry Potter fan at heart and anything with the extension of this universe I'm incredibly curious about. Since this is a larger adaptation of an incredibly short book JKR wrote in relation to Newt Scamander, and knowing it'll be based in 1920s America, I'm quite intrigued with how the story will be done.

Other than that, aside from a few that I'm definitely curious about (Captain America: Civil War because it's gonna be a big deal and a massive game changer for the MCU for sure, and of course Ghostbusters because ladies ghost-bustin') and those in the distant near future (Captain Marvel, the possibility of Pacific Rim 2), and those that have slipped underneath the radar for the time being, these are basically the upcoming films that I am highly anticipating at the moment. I'll admit to not being much of a moviegoer these days, but sometimes you need certain films to have that theater experience for.

If you haven't already, there are still some days available if you want to ask a question.

I'm so worried about Wonder Woman because I feel like DC is just a mess right now when it comes to movies. I'm worried it will be awful and then no one will see it and they will blame the gender and not the film quality!!!! Like when they made that awful cat woman movie with Halle berry.

I'm similar with those concerns, as well. From what we've seen from the sneak peek of the first footage and them discussing the character, everything seems to have major potential of getting Wonder Woman right. But what it comes down to is the final product of the overall story and development and characterization, which is key. Everything has to be engaging, entertaining, and a well-done story to further not just the success of the film itself but for the possibility of more Wonder Woman movies and other woman-centric superhero films.

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic, but the thought still worries me that even if it's good, it just won't be good enough by Hollywood standards.

I really really hope SW follows through on more female and LGBTQ representation because that would be amazing.

I am so excited for Captain Marvel and I can't believe I have to wait 3+ more years for it. I just need more Carol in my life. Plus we can't get Ms. Marvel until we get Captain Marvel which is ughhhh.

I'll go to see Fantastic Beasts because JKR is my queen, but I keep forgetting it's happening, heh.

I'm hoping that, as well. I was pleasantly surprised that our new golden trio is incredibly diverse, with our first lady Jedi no less, so having more representation present would be so amazing. I know there are a lot of debates about the LGBTQ rumors mostly focusing on the shipping aspect (on whether Finn/Poe could become a thing), but regardless if that happens or not, I would just want some acknowledgment that other sexualities exist, without any mockery or queerbaiting either.

I'm still miffed that Captain Marvel (and Black Panther) were pushed back in favor of Spider-Man. I get that there are scheduling conflicts and whatnot, but c'mon, Marvel.

Oh, yeah, I'm interested in most of these! Also, the new Star Trek, the new X-Men, Warcraft and Assassin's Creed come to mind.

I'm not overly familiar with WoW, but I'm definitely curious to see how the film does that world justice, and how overall fans react to it.

I don't know the game, but it looks like a good heroic fantasy movie.

Excellent picks, I have to say. I'm especially completely in agreement about the upcoming Star Wars movies. I really hope the next films will deliver like TFA did. There are such great rumours going around, like you point out so *fingers crossed* that they turn out to be real.

And I don't know how it happened, but now (also thanks to you, I think), I'm also super excited about Wonder Woman and all those movies that you talk about in the last pharagraph. So yes- excellent picks ;)

The Force Awakens surprised me so much in such a wonderful way, and I'm honestly excited about what else they'll bring to the table. Considering that Kathleen Kelly is going to be a producer for all of them, I'm really anticipating what other things they'll surprise us with next. Having so many women in the Star Wars franchise already gives me so much hope. :D

Well, you're welcome for getting hyped for Wonder Woman. I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about it since I want it to do well, and I want so much more of not just her but other women in the superhero universe, be it their own movie franchises or their own television series. Just, more ladies in general, please.

the possibility of Pacific Rim 2

I really want to see more from that universe, too. Will be missing Chuck though... What can I say, I'm a Hansen fangirl. At least Herc might still be in the new movie.

I'm just sad that it appears that Guillermo del Toro won't be directing it. However, I've read that the same team will be working on it along with Steven S. DeKnight, who created Spartacus, possibly being at the helm.

I'm definitely going to watch Civil War, but tbh I'm not really looking forward to it cause I don't like that storyline much. I prefer found families and everyone working together, not fighting each other, so I don't think I'll really enjoy it very much. But we'll see, maybe it'll surprise me or something. XD
Renée: Agents of Shield. Skye.rogueslayer452 on March 3rd, 2016 04:48 am (UTC)
I'm the same. In general I'm not huge with the MCU as much as I am with other things, and I generally stay away from the fandom, but I know that this is going to be one massive movie with this universe and all the characters. At the same time however, I do wish we could have gotten more of the characters actually working together as a team, because found families is something I'm really attracted to as well. I love seeing characters who, despite their differences, end up working together and overcoming those obstacles. And sadly, even though the storyline is pitting characters against each other through unfortunate circumstances, they're already marketing it as a "which side are you on" thing and I'm not sure I'm down for that.
