Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Official Teaser Trailer
It is finally here, you guys! The first official teaser for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the prequel stand-alone film to the original trilogy.

First of all, I'm so pleased that these new string of Star Wars films, from the sequel trilogy to this one, have improved significantly in terms of diversity, especially in regards to racial representation and women being forefront of these stories. Kelly Marie Tran is going to be the next lead, alongside Daisy Ridley, in Episode 8, and here we have Felicity Jones in this stand-alone film, playing an important role. I'm just so happy to see more inclusion. (◠‿◠✿)

And secondly, this just looks so damn good. Like, I'm trying to keep a level-head about this and not get my expectations too high, but after The Force Awakens and how utterly amazing that was, I'm excited about what this has in store for us.

This looks great, I'm excited for it. And yes, I love that it's about a woman and there are several POCs in the trailer.

It's just so awesome and amazing that we're getting a new wave of Star Wars films that are taking that progressive step into including more diversity. More women, more POC, with the possibility of having LGBTQ+ representation in future films (as talk/rumors are suggesting). Just, yes. What a time to be alive. :)

SAME. But it's kind of impossible, given how amazing it looks... the stormtroopers, the AT-ATs... just... it kind of feels like... you know, Star Wars. Everything that Episodes I-III didn't have, sadly (in my opinion).

And... as you said... The role of women in the new movies! Just... phew! Good to see, good to see.

My thoughts exactly. The prequels had a number of problems, but ultimately none of them felt like they were part of the same world that the original trilogy was, which is odd when you consider this is essentially the Darth Vader origin story, but it felt so separate. The Force Awakens was a reassurance that it actually was remaining true to that universe from the original, and Rogue One is continuing that reassurance with this teaser. It's rebooting what the prequels should have done in terms of atmosphere and setting, and most of all with characters and the storytelling.

I was happy that Rey was a central character of TFA, never mind our next Jedi, but just seeing and knowing that women are leading these new Star Wars films has me so overjoyed, you don't even known. :D

Ooh trailer. I'm going to hold off on watching so I can watch it with Zach when he's up.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it once you do. :)

My feelings about SW reboots and new films are pretty clear-cut. This however ... maybe I could get excited about this. Rebellion-era has always always been my favourite part of SW. I've never given two shits about Jedi/Sith tbh so ... I'm cautiously excited! X-Wings, Rogue Squadron .. those are my favourite elements after all....
Renéerogueslayer452 on April 7th, 2016 10:28 pm (UTC)
I'm just really excited about seeing new faces and characters, and seeing a part of this universe that we haven't explored before, a.k.a. the rebellion era. It just looks so cool, the visuals alone from this teaser has me all hyped.

I've mostly been more of a casual fan of the franchise, not so much the prequels but the original trilogy since I grew up with it. I was never that involved with the fandom or anything though. However, after TFA, and now Rogue One, I'm starting to really get involved somehow that I never was before.

Okay, AT-ATs. That's all I needed. Everything else is icing.
Renéerogueslayer452 on April 8th, 2016 04:45 am (UTC)
And just that shot alone of the AT-ATs is so, so cool. Like, the cinematography of that moment. I'm really looking forward to seeing this film. :D

It truly does. I'm loving how they're expanding the universe while still relating to the plots of the main trilogies. And hopefully this does well enough that we'll probably get a few more stand-alone spin-off films, since there's so much more interesting things they can focus on.

How did I not know this was a thing?! I'm super excited too! When the trailer passes the Bechdel test, you know that's a good sign!

Isn't it just so awesome? And while I tend to take the Bechdel test with a grain of salt in general, it really is nice seeing more women speaking with one another in a teaser trailer. And just more women in Star Wars, really. More women front and center of the action, of being the main character, being integral to the plot, having their own stories. Sign me up!

There's also plans on them creating a young Han Solo spin-off film, as well.

Good to see another female-led story in Star Wars. It's almost as though women make up about 50% of the population of the galaxy. Who knew?
Renée: Agents of Shield. Skye.rogueslayer452 on April 8th, 2016 10:02 pm (UTC)
For real, though. I'm just so happy for more women and POC to be represented, and to even be leads of these films rather than just supporting or side-characters.

Oh man, it looks SO GOOD! As soon as I heard what this movie was going to be about I started getting really excited, and the trailer looks amazing.

Did you see the dudebros already complaining about the continual presence of women in the new movies? Like, fuck them.
Renée: Firefly. Inara Serra.rogueslayer452 on April 8th, 2016 09:47 pm (UTC)
It is so good. And the more I rewatch it, the more intrigued and appreciative I am with what this film is going to be like. First, there's going to be no Jedi featured anywhere, which is a first for a Star Wars film. It will mostly be focused on an espionage mission, which is really exciting. And something I noticed is how they have a very old school style look to certain things, like the outfits of certain characters, which makes sense since this is immediately prior to the beginning events of A New Hope, so seeing that with updated technology is super cool. Never mind that we're just seeing more of the extension of this universe and other characters/missions/things happening.

Never mind how utterly awesome Jyn Erso looks, like her outfits are so on point. Already I'm seeing theories that she's Rey's mother. Which considering that this is before Episode 8 it could be leading up to discovering her true parentage.....

Did you see the dudebros already complaining about the continual presence of women in the new movies? Like, fuck them.

Unfortunately, I have. And sadly, they're going to continue being butthurt about women being present no matter what. They're so pathetic.

Amen to all, amen to all :D So excited for this and happy for all the new films.

Enjoy your weekend :)

It's kind of wild to think that we'll be getting new Star Wars movies coming out every year for a next several years now. I know some are worried that they'll be milking the franchise more, but I'm crossing my fingers that they keep up the momentum with the excitement and stories. TFA was so amazing, and after watching this teaser this looks to be equally awesome.

Thanks! You have a lovely weekend, as well! :D

Same, I'm just so hyped! Like, this was just a teaser trailer, but from what we see it looks so damn good. It's different from any other SW film we've gotten, but it still feels like Star Wars, you know? Cannot wait for December....

SOSOSOSO excited!! I just can't wait for it, because I know no matter what it's going to be so incredible.

And there's a theory that implies that this is going to set her up as Rey's mom so I'm preemptively shipping Jyn with Luke and also side-eying myself horribly because really brain BUT STILL.
Renée: Skye. Transformation.rogueslayer452 on April 10th, 2016 09:12 am (UTC)
I had only known the description of what Rogue One was going to entail, but after seeing this trailer I am so intrigued. This is going to be a different kind of Star Wars film where it doesn't deal with anyone with the Jedi or the Force, but ordinary people on a dangerous espionage mission. And it's going to be fantastic.

Also like, it's different but it still feels like it's Star Wars, you know?

And yes, there is definitely a lot of theories going around about that, which I'm definitely on board for, of course. Like, I know some people kinda wish that nobody was related to anybody which I can understand as a part of fresh storytelling and all, but I mean, considering that this film is coming out before Episode 8 I'm highly assuming that it's not coincidental.
