Of fandoms and ships.
Fandom meme taken from mfirefly10:

Your current OTP.
Daisy/Robbie (Agents of Shield), Wynonna/Dolls (Wynonna Earp), Sara/Rip (Legends of Tomorrow), Kirsten/Cameron (Stitchers), Camille/Fisher (Stitchers), Luke/Jessica (Jessica Jones). And some forever OTPs from past fandoms: Harry/Draco (Harry Potter), Buffy/Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Gaius/Six (Battlestar Galactica) and Helo/Athena (Battlestar Galactica). But seriously, I kinda collect OTPs left and right, it's kind of hard to keep track of them all with all the fandoms that I have sometimes, lol.

A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
Percival Graves/Tina Goldstein from Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Though I found their dynamic interesting since I sensed there was this mentor and protégé relationship between them based off their interaction earlier in the film, I wasn't necessarily shipping them. However, while I haven't been actively searching for anything, fandom has been incredible with convincing me that, yeah, there was definitely something there between them that implies their relationship could've been something more, or at least starting to. And you know what? I'm digging it.

A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can't.
Sara/Leonard from Legends of Tomorrow. While they had amazing chemistry and I could've definitely seen it happening, I wasn't as hardcore into it as some of the fandom was.

What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom?
I honestly don't even remember anymore. Perhaps engaging with fandom discussions on individual communities here on LiveJournal? Back in the day when any and every fandom had multiple communities being created constantly, there was always something to talk about, whether it was a question someone was asking or a community discussion post, anything. I would often give my thoughts, opinions and input and engaged in conversations with other members of such communities. Sometimes even befriending several of them. Another contribution was probably my episode reviews and meta posts for shows I was watching.

Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
Fanmixes for some crackships I had in mind, and posted some hilarious macro memes.

What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it?
This is difficult to decipher, since it really is subjective to what this actually means in terms of activity versus the longest you've been in fandom at heart, because there are shows that end and even most people disperse after some time the fandom itself will still remain active. There are fandoms that I love but end up leaving behind to focus on other things (because I have so many fandom obsessions), but there can still be a resurgence of that fandom from time to time. So, I think the longest I've remained in a fandom, be in actually involved or in my heart, has to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica and Harry Potter.

What was your first fandom?
Animorphs. If we're talking about my first fandom I actively engaged with online, definitely Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Do you prefer real-life TV shows or animated TV shows?
I don't really watch much animated shows, to be honest.

Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Tumblr hasn't stopped me from liking particular things I enjoy, however it has made me more aware of the particular areas and individuals I should avoid, especially in the tags. As much as I use that site, it is a cesspool of negativity and people policing others about what they should or shouldn't like, and it's absolutely annoying to the Nth degree. It's one of the reasons why I don't actively engage with fandom over there, to be honest.

Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over Tumblr.
Oh, there's been quite a handful over the years. Carmilla, Welcome To Night Vale, Strange Empire, Wynonna Earp, Hamilton, several YouTubers that I love and am now following, and most recently the Norwegian teen drama series Skam. Say what you will about that site, but one of its positive attributes is how, due to how incredibly active the fandom side of things are over there, I've been introduced to so many different fandoms, new and old, ranging from various mediums and platforms that I wouldn't have otherwise known about.

How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom(s).
Just like with any other fandom out there, some are good while others aren't.

Your favorite fan artist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for?
Something related to one of my favorite characters or OTP. I mean, obviously.

A person who got you into a fandom and what fandom they pulled you in to.
There's been so many over the years, my f-list here and on places like Tumblr.

Your favorite fandom (for the people; not the thing you fangirl over).
The Hobbit fandom was pretty amazing, so many fanartists and fanfic writers were coming out of the woodwork and contributing a lot of love. There wasn't much nastiness, at least from the people I followed, and overall they were a pretty swell bunch. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Battlestar Galactica, while there was a lot of in-fandom drama and wanking going on back in the day, there were still interesting aspects to those fandoms that I really enjoyed being a part of. Getting in on discussions and speculations, it was pretty fun for the most part. And currently at the moment, I'm really liking the Fantastic Beasts fandom, or, at least those who love Percival Graves/Colin Farrell. It makes me feel not alone with my love for this character.

Choose a song at random, what ship does it remind you of?
"Hero" by Skillet -- John and Cameron from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, mostly because I saw a fanvid with them to this song long ago and it's one of many songs that I associate with them. Though let's be real, any song can remind you of your OTP if you're in that deep and desperate enough. lol

Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
One of the things I've been toying with is that, in some kind of multiverse, characters from different fandoms who suffered tremendous amount of trauma go to this one particular place as a group therapy where they talk about the shit they've been through and/or currently going through. Other characters get to give their inputs (helpful or not) and they may even befriend each other as means of comfort, which they may or may not get in their own canons. I don't know, it's just something I've thought about in terms of AUs, kinda cracky, and I pretty sure I'm not the first person to think of this scenario. But, there you go.

A ship you’ve abandoned and why.
Unfortunately there are a lot of abandoned ships, and not because I'm tired of them or stopped shipping them. It's mostly due to having moved onto different fandoms and other pairings that I kind of placed them on the back burner until I revisit them again. Sometimes I may still like a pairing, but I'm no longer in/don't like the fandom anymore and have distanced myself from them for the time being until I feel motivated to go back to them again.

A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
I have a hand full of crossover ships that I don't think anyone might have considered. But I'll reiterate what mfirefly10 said in her answer, almost anyone can ship any rarepairings you have given the right amount of convincing and planting those plotbunnies in their heads.

What's a head-canon you have?
To go with my current obsession with Percival Graves from Fantastic Beasts (and one of the many headcanons I have for him): Percival is a man of very little words, he is quite stoic, grumpy and is often intimidating with his demeanor, however despite all this he is actually very protective of his fellow colleagues and the few that he is close with that he deeply cares about. Mess with them, and meet his wrath.

What are your favorite male/male ships or female/female ships?
M/M: Harry/Draco (Harry Potter), Bilbo/Thorin (The Hobbit)
F/F: Carmilla/Laura (Carmilla), Sara/Nyssa (Arrow), Emily/Alison (Pretty Little Liars), Emily/Maya (Pretty Little Liars), Faith/Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Myka/Helena (Warehouse 13), Inara/Kaylee (Firefly), Kahlan/Cara (Legend of the Seeker), Margaery/Sansa (Game of Thrones), Zoe/Tamara (Caprica), Bo/Tamsin (Lost Girl), Rei/Minako (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon)

What are your favorite male/female ships?
Daisy/Robbie (Agents of Shield), Jessica/Luke (Jessica Jones), Wynonna/Dolls (Wynonna Earp), Kirsten/Cameron (Stitchers), Camille/Fisher (Stitchers), Hanna/Caleb (Pretty Little Liars), Sara/Rip (Legends of Tomorrow), Ichabod/Abbie (Sleepy Hollow), Kara/James (Supergirl), Gaius/Six (Battlestar Galactica), Helo/Athena (Battlestar Galactica), Dan/Blair (Gossip Girl), Luke/Lorelai (Gilmore Girls), Lucius/Narcissa (Harry Potter), John/Cameron (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Wade/Vanessa (Deadpool), Sierra/Victor (Dollhouse), Veronica/Weevil (Veronica Mars)...as I mentioned before, I have so many different ships from a wide variety of fandoms, so I know I'm forgetting so many when answering both this and the question above.

Do you have any 3-way ships? If so, what?
Richard/Kahlan/Cara (Legend of the Seeker), Steve/Nancy/Jonathan (Stranger Things), Dolls/Wynonna/Doc (Wynonna Earp), Hardison/Parker/Elliot (Leverage), Bo/Dyson/Tamsin (Lost Girl), Finn/Rey/Poe (Star Wars), Topanga/Cory/Shawn (Boy Meets World)

5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms.
Percival Graves, Daisy Johnson, Sara Lance, Carmilla Karnstein and Jessica Jones.

3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms.
Harry/Draco (Harry Potter), Gaius/Six (Battlestar Galactica) and Alex/Justin (Wizards of Waverly Place)

A fandom you’re in but have no ships from.
I honestly have no idea. Girl Meets World, perhaps? Aside from the ships transferred from Boy Meets World, I don't really ship the kids with anyone. I mean, Riley/Maya is a possibility that I don't mind, but I also don't actively ship it either.

What's a ship that you want to ship publicly, but everyone on Tumblr hates it so you keep your mouth shut about it?
Here's the thing, I absolutely loathe the shipping politics of the Tumblr fandom, since it's nothing more than people shitting on something they disagree with or dislike and disguising it a "discourse" when in reality it's just a pathetic excuse to be self-righteous and entitled. It ain't cute. Don't like a ship? Don't engage with it. Don't read it, don't go in the tags, don't send anon hate telling someone they are "disgusting" for liking it, just ignore it and move on. It is that simple, folks. I am a firm believer in ship and let ship; enjoy what you like and let people enjoy what they like. So yeah, as someone who have multiple OTPs, OT3s and multi-ships? I definitely am someone who is not afraid of the things I ship. Others shouldn't be either.

Really? I actually didn't think they interacted much at all, although I did only see the movie once. Maybe I should buy the script.

I... just don't understand tumblr. I wish fandom would find a more positive and discussion-friendly space.

There are small moments, such as at very beginning when she brings Newt in and interrupts the investigative team. He's silent when the President is lecturing her about her no longer being an Auror, but he goes down to the basement anyway to hear her out when he really didn't need to. Granted yes, this is Grindelwald pretending to be the real Graves, but he had to maintain the real Graves' personality and behavior so nobody would suspect him, and this seemed absolutely normal. She didn't question him coming down to see her, and she seemed so relieved when he agreed after she explained her situation. And because Graves was Tina's former boss before she was demoted, there is the strong implication that she had the utmost respect and trust in him.

It's true we didn't really see much of anyone's relationship with each other, such as what the relationship Graves has with President Picquery and the rest of his colleagues at MACUSA, the events of the film go by so fast and it only takes place in a matter of two days. But just from the subtext and implications of the acting of certain scenes alone is enough to give us a hint of who the real Graves was and what those relationships could've been.

(Really, we're just thirsty for something to understand who he was, tbh.)

I... just don't understand tumblr. I wish fandom would find a more positive and discussion-friendly space.

Hell, I use Tumblr daily and even I don't understand it most of the time.

You make good points! Although that does make me wonder why (if they were close) Tina wouldn't have questioned the death penalty. But someone - maybe you? - also pointed out that Newt knew it wasn't the real Graves, so maybe that was apparent to them but realized "offscreen." (Whether intentionally, so as to make the twist work, or unintentionally.) Also, it's a different format from the books, where Harry has twenty chapters to realize "wait a minute, that didn't make sense" and come to the conclusion that so and so has been something or other'd. So as you point out, they simply didn't have time to delve into all of those things.

Yeah, I think there were a few implications, like during the interrogation scene or when Newt was inquiring about Graves' background in the speakeasy, but nothing concrete on exactly when the revelation came about, it seemed like a hunch more than anything. So unless there are deleted scenes to fill in those blanks, it most likely happened offscreen.

Percival Graves/Tina Goldstein (…) I'm digging it.
Join the club. :D I just really needed a canon character to ship Percival with and Tina just seemed like the logical choice. After all, they did have a lot of chemistry in the movie. ♥
I already shipped them when I searched tumblr for that particular ship and I have seen so many amazing images and headcanons on there that I’m now shipping them in so many different ways.

That’s pretty much one of my headcanons for him as well. All those young, new Aurors just out of school are frightened of him and Tina finds it hilarious, because she knows that underneath that stoic, grumpy facade Graves is actually kind and compassionate. He might not talk about his feelings or in fact show that he has any, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. He just hides them well.

Richard/Kahlan/Cara (Legend of the Seeker)
I rarely ship OT3s, but these three I ship.

ship and let ship
Amen! Ship wars are actually one of the things I dread about tumblr. There are plenty of ships I don’t like or just don’t get and that’s fine. Everyone is different and likes different things and that’s good. Otherwise life would be really boring. However, that also means that I don’t expect everyone to ship the same pairings that I ship. The internet is big enough for all ships just stick to your little corner of fandom and enjoy the ride. If everyone would do this fandom would be much more enjoyable for all involved.

He might not talk about his feelings or in fact show that he has any, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. He just hides them well.

Absolutely. It's one of my favorite headcanon characteristics for him. His outward appearance is intimidating and is very stern, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care, he's just better at compartmentalizing his emotions. He feels like public displays of affection are a distraction especially in the workplace, but inside he's definitely all squishy and awkward and, while he doesn't want to show favoritism, he does tend to accidentally let it slip once or twice. Once you get to know him more personally (which is something quite rare because I view him a someone who doesn't trust people easily), you see a softer, more affectionate side to him that most don't normally see.

I rarely ship OT3s, but these three I ship.

Like with most of my ships I don't always expect them to become canon, but this on was was where I could actually see happening down the line, should the show have continued. /forever mourning the loss of LOTS. :(

The internet is big enough for all ships just stick to your little corner of fandom and enjoy the ride. If everyone would do this fandom would be much more enjoyable for all involved.

Exactly. It's not a hard concept to grasp, and the fact some people feel like it is their obligation to bash someone for what they ship or what they like is being counterproductive. I mean, fandom as a whole has always been messy no matter where it goes, being someone who has seen plenty of fandom drama over the years, but it just baffles me that some just have no self control. Don't like something? Ignore it and move on. You do you and let others enjoy what they like. Honestly, it's not difficult to understand.

Definitely, it would be highly unprofessional to let your emotions get in the way and if there is one thing that Percival Graves is not it’s unprofessional. However, he’s also human, which means he isn’t perfect. He’s probably annoyed with himself when he realizes what he has done, but that only lasts until Tina smiles at him because of something he has done and then he knows it was worth it. He would never admit it though. After all, he’s got a reputation to uphold.

Don't like something? Ignore it and move on.
Yeah, isn’t it much more fun to talk about your own ships and headcanons rather than bashing other ships? And even if you can’t do the grown-up thing and instead feel the need to bash a ship for some reason, do it in your part of fandom. There is no need to harass the people who actually like that ship. They will not change their mind and magically convert to your ship just because you want them to. Also, you don’t want them to barge into your part of fandom and bash your ship so show them the same respect.

I may do this meme, it looks cool.

Percival Graves/Tina Goldstein? Can you point me in the direction of some of this? I dig it.

I'm totally with you on your tumblr fandom thoughts. The fact that there are people building their entire fandom experience around hating on ships is baffling to me.

While I haven't checked it out yet, I believe that AO3 may have some fics underneath Original Percival Graves/Tina Goldstein. If you're on Tumblr, definitely check out the goldgraves tag. For individual Tumblrs, I highly recommend prcivalgraves and checking out what they've been posting/reblogging for Percival/Tina. They also post a lot of Percival headcanons too, which I absolutely love. Also this Tumblr is specifically for the ship, includes fic recs and more.

I'm totally with you on your tumblr fandom thoughts. The fact that there are people building their entire fandom experience around hating on ships is baffling to me.

Having been involved with fandom for a long time, shipping wars aren't new. I've become quite desensitized to most fandom drama that every time something reemerges, no matter where fandom resides, it's basically the same shit just dressed differently. The problem with Tumblr fandom, however, is that they believe they are part of some form of "activism" by policing others what they feel you shouldn't like because they find it "problematic" for whatever reason. You're no longer allowed to like things just because you like them, you have to justify why with the correct reasons or else you'll be attacked by someone who doesn't share those same views. You like this particular pairing? Well, you can't because it's racist. You ship someone older with someone younger? That pedophilia and you're a disgusting person for shipping it. You like a certain kink? Be prepared to be kinkshamed. Hell, there was a post going around not too long ago with someone claiming that AO3 should be shut down because people were tagging the appropriate kinks and/or ships and they considered it to be too triggering for some people and not safe for children (which reminded me so much of the Strikethrough of 2007 here on LJ).

While it does depend on where you go and who you follow, these kinds of toxic mentalities does unfortunately spread around the fandom on Tumblr and it's just absolutely exhausting to deal with when it invades your particular space.
potentiality_26potentiality_26 on December 15th, 2016 02:26 am (UTC)
Thanks for the links!

Having been involved with fandom for a long time, shipping wars aren't new.

You're right about that, but (and maybe this is just because most of my fandoms were pretty small pre-tumblr) the concept anti-shippers is new to me. When it's less 'I like this ship and therefore hate this one' and more 'I am so upset about the very existence of this that all I'm going to do in fandom is attack people who like it.' Maybe that was always out there and I've only recently started to see it, but I don't get why anyone would want to do that. Because not only are they missing out on a chance to just talk about something they like instead, they're also constantly exposing themselves to this thing they say distresses them so much.

You're no longer allowed to like things just because you like them, you have to justify why with the correct reasons or else you'll be attacked by someone who doesn't share those same views.

I've seen that too. I don't get why shipping is suddenly supposed to be about activism, or about which relationships are the most healthy or ideologically pure or whatever. And yeah, it's scary that there are people who actually talk about deleting fanworks they find problematic or shutting down the AO3 altogether.

I manage to avoid that kind of 'discourse' for the most part, but it is pretty disturbing when I do see it.
Renée: Elementary. Joan Watson.rogueslayer452 on December 17th, 2016 06:37 am (UTC)
You're very welcome! :)

When it's less 'I like this ship and therefore hate this one' and more 'I am so upset about the very existence of this that all I'm going to do in fandom is attack people who like it.'

Yeah, that is kind of a recent development, sort of an evolution of the standard shipping wars we normally saw back in the day to something else, which I believe started on Tumblr because of the rise of the social justice awareness. Unfortunately, this caused some to take the very concept of learning and becoming more aware of social issues and instead of discussing it like mature adults, they are sadly abusing it to where it becomes a self-righteous game of moral superiority. Seeing such behavior and the damage it causes for everyone is both disgusting and disheartening, because while there can be good points featured that is worth examining it often gets overshadowed by the levels of toxicity that occurs. :/

Love lots of the same ships!

I'm enjoying Robbie/Daisy much more than I usually do when canon tells me to like a het pairing lol. Love Sierra/Victor though too. And Nyssa/Sara, Veronica/Weevil, Faith/Buffy.

I've been meaning to try out Carmilla :) Good to know you liked it.
Renéerogueslayer452 on December 15th, 2016 02:56 am (UTC)
I don't even know if they'll actually end up being canon, not that it matters when it comes to shipping for me lol, but I just love the dynamic between Daisy and Robbie so much. And they're really attractive, both together and individually. ;D

Carmilla is absolutely a wonderful webseries. Amazing LGBTQ+ representation, fantastic characters, and overall a beautiful story. Highly recommend. ♥

Yasss Gaius/Six! <33 One of my favorite pairings ever. So freaking epic. My second and third BSG pairings were Gaius/Laura and Gaius/Gaeta. There are d to be a pattern...:p

And ahhhh yes, Animorphs! My first fandom too, and one that set me up for a lifetime of d00med!shipping with Jake/Cassie as my OTP. (Another reason I appreciate G/S so much, one of the few times my guys ended up not doomed!).

Man, I just realized that I have no current ships I'm really fannishly passionate about that I can think of right now...so weird for me, and pretty sad! For my currently airing shows they've either been killed off or destroyed. And in my main fandom ATM, Hamilton, I ship a few things, but can't say that I can go all in on Hamilton/Eliza, for instance, considering how he did her wrong.
Renée: Six/Gaius. Mischievous.rogueslayer452 on December 15th, 2016 03:06 am (UTC)
Six/Gaius is love. ♥ I loved everything about their relationship, no matter if it was Caprica Six with Gaius or head!Six with him (or any other Sixes for that matter, tbh), everything surrounding their characters was absolute gold for me. It was beautiful, fucked up, and just amazing. And I loved that Gaius and Caprica Six didn't end up doomed in the end, either! I was so happy that they actually got their happy ending. ♥ ♥ ♥

For my currently airing shows they've either been killed off or destroyed.

Awww, that's sad. :( But in truth, this is why when something like that happens I actively ignore canon and just remain blissfully happy in denial land of my own headcanons.

I somehow found your post and got excited to see someone shipping Sara/Rip on Legends of Tomorrow and other ships that I like as well. This fandom meme looks so cool to work on :)

I love your thoughts about Percival Graves/Tina Goldstein, and I do see why people ship them (and understand the thoughts behind them). I do ship them, but I also ship other ships in that fandom. I still need to read the screenplay to see if there is more evidence of it.

I totally understand where you're coming from about Sara/Leonard, I like the pairing but I am not as much into compared to Sara/Rip. And I don't understand the hate that some Sara/Leonard have for Sara/Rip.

I never got into people hating ship or ship wars. Literally ship whoever you want as long as you don't tell me I can't like/ship certain ships cause they are "problematic" or awful shipping pairings. (And I am a multi-shipper, so I tend to be able to avoid shipping wars/drama because I like so many parings).

I literally reblog anything on Tumblr for Percival Graves/Colin Farrell and reading all the metas/thoughts about where he is. And I love your headcanon for Percival Graves, I can see him doing that.

I had fun reading your answers for this meme :)

Yay, another Sara/Rip fan to share the love! ♥

And I don't understand the hate that some Sara/Leonard have for Sara/Rip.

I haven't encountered anything like that from where I've been lurking about, though sadly it wouldn't surprise me. It's just another part of the territorial aspect of classic shipping wars, unfortunately. :/

And I am a multi-shipper, so I tend to be able to avoid shipping wars/drama because I like so many parings

Exactly, same here as well.

I literally reblog anything on Tumblr for Percival Graves/Colin Farrell and reading all the metas/thoughts about where he is. And I love your headcanon for Percival Graves, I can see him doing that.

I love that there's so much Percival stuff on Tumblr. I pretty much fell in love with the character the moment the trailers were released (even without knowing much about the character himself, and that rarely if ever happens tbh), and there was literally nothing in the tags except for a few people, and then the movie came out and everyone EXPLODED with love for Percival/Colin Farrell. It makes me so happy seeing all the love and praise, with so much fanart and headcanons and people sharing the love of this character and their newfound or revived love for Colin in general. ♥

I'm planning on posting more of my own headcanons for him here, because god knows I have certain ideas and a storyline for him, pre- and post-Grindelwald, ever since seeing the movie.

I like your random AU idea. Definitely a lot of characters in need of therapy. But you know...I'd also like a place they could go to just to get hugs. So many of my favs need hugs and they don't get them. I want a multi-universe spot where someone's always there to give hugs to anyone who needs them.

I can understand people not being open about their ships if they're in fandoms like OUAT or TVD where there's nothing but hatred on all sides. If you're a popular blog in those fandoms and you publicly acknowledge what you ship, you get bombarded with hateful messages. I'm open about my ships because no one cares about my blog :) I can post/reblog whatever I want and no one's stopping by to leave death threats in my ask box. But lots of people get that kind of horribleness sent to them so I can understand why some fans might not talk about their shipping publicly or choose to create side-blogs instead.

Free therapy session and free hugs. Where they're wrapped in blankets and given hot chocolate and get to talk to someone who will listen to their problems, or just cuddle with them if they need it while hearing others talk. :)

But lots of people get that kind of horribleness sent to them so I can understand why some fans might not talk about their shipping publicly or choose to create side-blogs instead.

See, and that is one of the things I dislike so much. The fact that people feel the need to create side-blogs for their particular ships or even a love of certain characters because they might get hated on. And that's just so ultimately disheartening and disappointing that they're made to feel that way, of being ashamed of what they like or afraid of expressing their opinion when they aren't even bothering anyone. Like, I understand why they do so, but it shouldn't even happen because people shouldn't feel ashamed of the things they enjoy in fandom. :/

This is a fun meme to read through! And I so agree with your answer about Tumblr. I do love being on there and looking at the pretty stuff, but when it comes to actual fandom stuff, I miss what we had on livejournal- better ways to communicate to begin with and just less of all the stuff that's on Tumblr when you dare to read into discussions.

It's sad because there are times when I really want to engage in a discussion or talk with someone, because there are some fascinating posts over there and even more interesting people, but besides the whole impersonal atmosphere of that site it's also not the right kind of platform for any kind of constructive conversation to take place. There will always be someone somewhere wanting to hijack a post and derail the already happening conversation for one purpose or another, and you can't shut it down or take control of it like you can on places like LJ where you can freeze a thread or post entirely.
