Life behind the television screen.
++ A brand new trailer for The Carmilla Movie was just released, which actual dialogue and some plotty things, and I'm now more hyped. Give it to me now!

++ I've been delving into Black Butler recently. I became intrigued when I saw, interestingly enough, a beautiful piece of jewelry at a store that was merchandise from the show. Curiosity got the better of me and I researched on what it was, which then I went down the rabbit hole of reading up on the entirety of the series, and, well, here I am today. I've researched both the anime and manga enough to know that this is a series that fits right up my alley, just based on the premise and descriptions of the main characters alone, and the more I read up on it the more fascinated I became. I've only seen clips online, however I do plan on watching the first season in its entirety and see where it goes from there, and possibly get my hands on the manga itself. And yes, I am definitely on the Ciel/Sebastian shipping wagon. As a sidenote to that, I almost saw the voice actors who did the English dubs for Ciel and Sebastian at an anime convention recently, but I unfortunately couldn't make it to their panel in time.

++ In related news regarding anime, I've also been curious about Voltron: Legendary Defender that's been on Netflix. Mostly because of the character of Shiro, because apparently I have a thing for characters with undercuts and white shock hair and who are incredibly honorable and good leaders dealing with PTSD. That's pretty much the reason I want to watch, honestly.

++ Grantchester is another show I've recently discovered. I've seen it around before but it didn't really grab my attention aside from there being a hot priest who apparently helps solve crimes. But there's definitely more to it than just that, obviously. The main character is a vicar who suffers PTSD from WWII, has a complicated relationship with one of his childhood friends who he has feelings for, and is overall a good person who tries his best to help others. I'm making my way through the first season at the moment, and will probably have more to say once I've finished. I know the show currently has three seasons so far, so we'll see how this goes.

++ Fall season has started, and there are many shows that are premiering or returning. Aside from some returning shows (Bull, Legends of Tomorrow, Agents of Shield, Elementary, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, Berlin Station, Strangers Things, and probably a few others I'm forgetting), I have to say that the fall schedule for new shows has been incredibly underwhelming. Besides The Gifted, not much has captured my interest. And even with my returning shows, those are incredibly few in numbers at the moment. I'm finding that most of my shows now reside during the summer more these days, which isn't necessarily bad. Admittedly, it's kind of a relief knowing that I'll have more time now to finally catch up on the shows that I've fallen behind on.

I love Voltron. S1 was good, but not exceptional. I got hooked with S2.

It's one of those shows that I was only made vaguely aware of because people kept reblogging stuff from it on Tumblr. It didn't really grab my attention until I saw fanart of Shiro, and then I was like, oh hello who is this. Then I looked up what the show was about, which has me curious.

Carmilla!!!! I want the movie now!!!!

Black Butler is such an interesting franchise (in the best way possible). I met the VA for Sebastian a few years ago at a convention (not Ciel yet - eventually!!!), and he is such a sweetheart; eloquent, too!

Yeah, Shiro is pretty much (one of) the only reason I watch Voltron.

I've gotten in the habit of watching Granchester with my grandma; I've been watching it out of order, so I have to catch up on the earlier seasons at some point. My grandma always makes the comments of how grim some of the little English towns are XD

Oh, another Berlin Station fan!!! I'm so pleased. I don't think there are many of us. Is Mina Tander in season 2? I haven't had a chance to watch the premiere yet. I thought her and Richard Armitage had great chemistry.

And yes, underwhelming is putting it mildly. I mean at the point I'm basically waiting for Elementary to come back and dearly wish since early last year that The CW had found it in their hearts to uncancel Reign for actually season 4 had been rather good. But no. So... oh well.
Renée: Sarah Manning. One of a kind.rogueslayer452 on October 8th, 2017 04:53 am (UTC)
Yeah, I basically starting watching because of Richard Armitage and Michelle Forbes, but it's true that I haven't seen much of a fandom for it outside of the Richard Armitage fanbase on Tumblr. I haven't watched the premiere just yet either, but I just looked and she's credited to be in the first episode. So maybe?

It's always a guessing game when it comes to new shows premiering during fall season, but it's such a hit or miss and this year I've just been not feeling anything that has been announced. Though to be fair that's been happening a lot lately, and it's usually after a show has aired its first season that, if it looks like it's actually interesting and people are saying that it's good, then perhaps I'll give it a try. But at the moment, nothing much sticks out. Most of my returning shows are going to be later in the year, some mid-season, so now it's just a standstill until they appear.

It's safe to say that if it's a spy show I'll probably give it a go. Same for most sci-fi and period drama. What appealed to me in addition to that was the fact that it has some good German actors.

I don't know, there hasn't been much in recent years – at least not where the main TV season was concerned. And due to the surgery I had earlier this year I've worked through most of the things I had saved for a rainy day.

I agree on the fall season to be very underwhelming so far... I didn't add anything if not inhumans and that is so boring I will end up taking it off the calendar... I only added it because it's a Marvel show...
Renéerogueslayer452 on October 8th, 2017 10:22 am (UTC)
Are you planning on checking out The Gifted or the upcoming Runaways, since they're also Marvel shows as well?
Ery-chan: pic#105558586erychan86 on October 8th, 2017 01:34 pm (UTC)
I don't think so... they are set in the xmen universe right? I still have to watch the xmen movies LOL!!!
Renée: Agents of Shield. Skye.rogueslayer452 on October 8th, 2017 10:01 pm (UTC)
I don't think you necessarily have to watch the X-Men movies to understand the universe or the shows based in said universe.
Ery-chan: pic#105558586erychan86 on October 9th, 2017 12:18 pm (UTC)
That's my excuse... since I am up to date with all the Marvel Super Heroes Shows I feel like I have to keep up... I'm avoiding the xmen universe because it's too much... the only thing I watch is Legion because of Dan Stevens 😁

I'm so ready for more Stranger Things!

Renéerogueslayer452 on October 7th, 2017 10:08 pm (UTC)
I'm really very curious as what is going to happen. I haven't read anything about the second season other than watching the trailers for it, so I'm excited to see what happens next!

Ah, Black Butler! That was one amazing anime!! *_____*
Renéerogueslayer452 on October 7th, 2017 11:02 pm (UTC)
I heard it's really great, and based on what I've seen it's incredibly intriguing both in plot and the characters involved. Have you read the manga?
haebin: San Franciscohaebin on October 12th, 2017 10:52 am (UTC)
Unfortunately not. :(
I always wanted to 'dive deeper' in the whole manga-scene but they are so horrible expensive here in Germany, so I only have some few manga-series.
I know, you can read a lot at the Internet and I really want to do that - but damn, the day hasn't enough hours. ^^

I’ve found the same thing, a few people on my flist have been talking about what their tv schedule is as the new season starts, and I realised that practically all of my shows now are mid-season ones. I don’t really watch any 22 episode dramas any more, the only shows that I’m currently watching are The Big Bang Theory and The Good Place

I can only speak for myself, but aside from there being very minimal shows on at the moment my viewing habits have definitely changed over the years. I tend to binge watch shows more than anything else these days, which is why I don't do individual episode reviews as I used to do in the past. I find it's easier to talk about a show once it has had a significant amount of episodes or once a season is finished.

Ohhh Berlin Station is coming back? So excited for that! I seem to be the worst of keeping track of stuff these days.
Renée: John Thornton.rogueslayer452 on October 8th, 2017 01:22 pm (UTC)
Yep, it comes back on October 15th. Although the first two episodes have already been released as kind of a pre-showing, just like how they did it for the first season.

I'm really excited for what season two will bring. I've been excited since after the first season premiered. I'm ready for the next chapter with what will happen with these kids, with Eleven, everyone.

I haven't watched Black Butler in ages, but I liked it and the manga a lot. I was on the Ciel/Sebastian wagon to.

Voltron s1 was really enjoyable. I haven't gotten around to s2 yet. And Shiro is awesome.

I really like Granchester (of course I would: hot British priest who solves mysteries & has a gorgeous black lab) and watch the seasons when they hit pbs.

New fall tv is pretty meh so far for me too. I like The Brave well enough, but really I wouldn't keep up w/ it except I tend to do yoga w/ mom at 10 when it's on. The Orville is okay, but I'm super casual on keeping track of it. The Gifted is actually really good so far. I'm kinda surprised.
Renéerogueslayer452 on October 13th, 2017 01:03 pm (UTC)
I don't watch much anime or read that many mangas, so it's rather interesting that Black Butler caught my eye just by reading up on what it was about. I instantly was intrigued by the Ciel/Sebastian relationship, which was probably the main draw.

After watching just a few episodes of Grantchester we're basically considering on just getting the DVDs of all the existing seasons so far.
Revyallodole on October 11th, 2017 05:22 pm (UTC)
Black Butler's anime is kinda supbar. It has pretty music though! The manga (well, obviously) is better and goes deeper although it has its stupider filler-moments too.

ALSO it'd be awesome if you got into Voltron! It's a pretty entertaining show and Shiro is a beautiful, beautiful character and I love him to bits. Never ever delve into the fandom though, it's a cesspool of bullshit. (When are fandoms NOT cesspools for bullshit though...)
Renéerogueslayer452 on October 11th, 2017 09:43 pm (UTC)
I've heard good things about the first season, the second season however is considered less favorable. But I'll be checking them out nonetheless along with the manga to do a compare and contrast. Same with Book of Circus and Book of Murder, which I read follows the manga more closely than the first two seasons.

(I also heard that there was a Japanese live action film, but nobody talks about it because it's apparently very, very bad, lol.)

Never ever delve into the fandom though, it's a cesspool of bullshit.

lol, I had to unfollow someone on Tumblr recently because all they did was rant about the show after the third season dropped on Netflix. And I was like, I don't need this negativity just as I was getting myself intrigued by the show. I thankfully haven't seen much of the fandom other than knowing it exists. I've only looked at the fanart and gifsets and not much else with fan opinions. Sometimes it's better that way when it comes to discovering something new.

I completely forgot to reply omg

YES the second season has pretty much nothing to do with the overall story so honestly, you're better off with the first one and the manga. And Jpn live actions are so hit and miss: they're either very accurate and good or just so painfully bad (cough cough attack on titan live action cough- what the everloving f was that)

Do tell us your thoughts if you end up watching Voltron! It's kinda painful to watch it as an adult at times tbh: there's potential for deeper storylines but since it's mainly geared towards kids.. it just doesn't happen. But oh well. There's always fic! :D
