So, SDCC happened this past weekend...
I tend to get all this information as it's coming out, though idk why but it seemed like there wasn't as much happening this year at SDCC? Or at least not much that interested me, personally, since there was a lot of announcements that occurred but it wasn't something that I was that into or didn't care for. But there were things that I was anticipating to come out from the event, and while I may be missing some things, here are the main ones that I'm excited about:

++ We finally have the much awaited official teaser for the fourth season of The Expanse, which will be premiering December 13th on Amazon Prime. I'm excited, for the fact that the show is returning on a new home and will hopefully remain there for a good long while, and also just to see the story unfold and continue on. This show is just so amazing and awesome, some of the best scifi I've seen in a long time, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. For anyone who is curious about the show, the first three seasons are available on Amazon so you can get caught up before the fourth season premieres.

++ There was a sneak peek trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which includes a little bit of behind-the-scenes of what they did to make it which absolutely looks stunning. I mentioned this before, but I like how there is this equilibrium of using practical effects and special effects, and actually getting to see that here is remarkable. Seeing the puppetry, the built sets, and seeing how they incorporated the special effects to scenes that enhances the experience, it works so well because it's a combination of things that are needed. Everything I've been seeing in regards to Age of Resistance has me very impressed, from how it looks to how it'll be expanding the universe and world, and I'm really hoping that it delivers.

++ As for the MCU, I don't really have much to say about the Phase Four of films coming out. I've never been huge on the MCU anyway, so. I will say, though, that the only film that looks remotely interesting to me is Shang-Chi, because having an Asian-led MCU film, one of the first Asian-led superhero movie? With an Asian-American director and writer? Yes please. Also, hearing how Simu Liu basically championed for more racial diversity in the MCU, especially in regards to Asian-American representation, and that somehow got him the role makes it even better. So yeah, that's basically the only thing I am looking forward to, to be honest.

++ The trailer for the third season of Dear White People was released, which I was wondering when we were going to get it. I'm hoping that it doesn't end up getting cancelled (since that's what Netflix does a lot now after three seasons), or that the show has a nice conclusion regardless.

++ Doom Patrol was renewed for a second season! I was so happy hearing this news, since after the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Swamp Thing and hearing certain things about how DC/Warner Bros were handling things I thought that it wasn't going to get another season. The show has gotten a lot of positive reviews and reactions from people, it is considered one of the better DC shows because it is so different, so unique and fresh, which based on what I've seen it is absolutely true, so seeing it renewed makes me happy to see it continue to thrive.

++ While not revealed at SDCC necessarily, finding out that Katee Sackhoff is going to be in another science fiction series called Another Life on Netflix has me incredibly intrigued. I would've checked this out simply for her alone, but based on the trailer it actually looks quite interesting.

++ And lastly, of course I have to mention Critical Role. Some of the cast appeared to do a live reading for The Adventure Zone comics with the McElroys and Lin Manuel Miranda. I know many, including the cast, want to have these people guest on their show at some point in any capacity. I mean, Matt already has had quite a few amazing people guest, including doing a one-on-one session with Stephen Colbert. So this might be a possibility, whether a guest in the second campaign or doing voices for their animated series. The cast was also there for their Talks Machina panel, and also to promote the upcoming next issue of the Vox Machina: Origins comics.

Was there anything at SDCC this year that was announced or happened that made you excited?

Still so behind on The Expanse but I’ve been really enjoying it so far! Good writing, action scenes and the ensemble cast is great. I tend to gravitate toward ensemble shows and movies anyways so this one has been good.

I’m looking forward to certain phase 4 mcu project like Falcon and Winter Soldier since I’m such Sebastian trash and I love Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson so I’m so down for more female superhero oriented content.

For being its 50th year I had to say it seemed less packed around the convention center this year. The Hall H line was crazy for the phase 4 reveal but for all other days it seemed well, pretty tame. I didn’t have a badge this year but even the offsite stuff was pretty low key? TBH my fave part of cons anyways is artist alley and fan content so seeing as I couldn’t access the part it was pretty meh for me. Did however get to see the HerUniverse Fashion show which was a hell of a lot of fun!

One of the things I love about The Expanse is the ensemble cast of characters. Each and every one of them, from the main and supporting to even minor characters, are interesting and fantastic in their own right. It all works together when you see characters interacting and such, it's great. How far along are you into the show, may I ask?

I'm just hoping that from the MCU they actually confirm that Valkyrie is bisexual in canon. I'm not really holding my breath, knowing the industry, but I'm hoping that Taika and Tessa can finally push the studios for that representation that they attempted previously.

Based on reports from others I've seen similar comments, as well, in terms of this SDCC was pretty tame in comparison to previous years. The MCU was always going to draw a crowd so I'm not surprised by that, but otherwise there wasn't much anything else big going on besides that. And the fact that it was the 50th anniversary for SDCC in general just makes it weird there wasn't something else going on. At least, none that I have read about anyway.

It's confirmed:

"“The answer is yes,” Feige said of Valkyrie having an LGBTQ storyline. “How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4.” "

Yay! That's awesome news! I'm so glad that it's finally happening, since I know many were disappointed previously, but now it seems at least the effort is being made to have it be a part of the story.

This, and Bart and Eduardo being a couple on Young Justice. Just need them to kiss so no one can call it "ambiguous" anymore.

Did you see this -- https://theexpanselaunch.com/

They are going to do a collector's edition and they want fan input. :D

You're welcome. :)

It's good that we finally got a date for S4, but it seems so far away. I understand though. I guess their post-production easily takes twice as long as other shows.

I feel like the only big surprise for the MCU is Natalie Portman coming back and playing Thor. Everything else was either just an expansion of previous announcements or confirmation of rumors.
The Doctor Strange sequel sounds intriguing and I really liked the first movie.

I know, I was expecting the new season much sooner, but I guess it makes sense. Besides, this is the first footage/images we've seen of the fourth season since they started filming, and for a quality season I'm willing to wait until December.

That is true about those MCU announcements. Aside from a few things, it didn't reveal anything new, just officially confirmed things that have been floating around for some time now. I'm not really huge with the MCU so I guess I expected something more explosive, but for fans of the movies it must've been exciting either way.

I don't think there was ever such a long break seasons when The Expanse was still on Syfy? I mean,I'm still grateful that we even get a 4th season don't get me wrong and obviously this kind of show needs longer in post production than, let's say,Brooklyn Nine-Nine or something but still. I ALREADY don't remember much from last season so in December it will all be gone lmao

When they announced Another Life I knew that I would watch it for my girl Katee alone (and Tyler Hoechlin) but it's nice that it actually looks good \o/

I'm guessing it's probably because it's now on a streaming service it has a different kind of way of scheduling shows than network television. Either way, while it does seem like a ways away I'm willing to wait for that quality that I know (and hope) will be delivered.

It looks super interesting, I'm intrigued by what it may be about. :) And seeing Katee again, especially in scifi, makes me very, very happy.

Also loved the Westworld trailer.

I'm not always up on the MCU news, so when I heard about the casting along with them having an Asian-American director/writer, my interest perked right up. :D
